The Barbados colours will once again be on display at a major triathlon competition in the coming days. Next weekend two Barbadian triathletes will be competing at the World Triathlon Championship Finals in Torremolinos-Andalucía, Spain.

 

Matthew Wright concludes his dream year, having raced at the Paris Olympics. He is set to compete again at the highest level in triathlon with the Elite Men on Sunday October 20th. Wright, aged 32, is the second Barbadian athlete ever to compete in a Olympic triathlon.

 

Fynn Armstrong, fresh off winning three gold medals at the Carifta Triathlon, Aquathlon, and Mixed Relay Championship, will be racing with the Junior Men on Friday October 18th.

 

The men’s and women’s World Champion is decided on a cumulative points basis, with the sum of their three best points scores, plus their score in Torremolinos, deciding the series rankings, medallists and champions.

As it was an Olympic year, the individual races at the 2024 Summer Olympics were treated as a sixth World Triathlon Championship Series race for the purposes of ranking points. In addition, points were available on a reduced scale (75 per cent of a standard race) for each of the continental championships.

 

The junior, Under-23, and Mixed Relay titles will be decided solely on the basis of this coming weekend’s events in Spain.
