Families of patients at St. John’s Hospice have come forward to express dissatisfaction with the behavior of a doctor assigned to the hospice, claiming that the physician has acted in a manner inconsistent with the compassionate approach expected in end-of-life care.

Several families have shared stories of encounters they describe as abrupt and lacking empathy. According to complaints, the doctor in question has delivered news of a loved one’s passing in a detached and routine tone, failing to offer the compassion and sensitivity required in such distressing moments. “It felt clinical and cold,” said one family member. “We were already struggling with grief, and the lack of gentleness only added to our heartache.”
The hospice, an institution dedicated to providing comfort and dignity to patients in their final days, holds a unique and sacred role in the healthcare community. It is meant to be a place where patients and families receive not only medical care but also emotional support during a profoundly vulnerable time. Many patrons have highlighted the importance of having medical professionals who are both skilled and empathetic in their interactions, especially in conversations surrounding the imminent loss of a loved one.
“We understand the challenges doctors face, especially in palliative care, but compassion is non-negotiable,” emphasized another family member. “Hospice care is different from any other medical department. It requires a certain level of emotional intelligence and understanding that matches the depth of what patients and their families are going through.”

The families are now urging the hospice administration to address the situation. “We are kindly asking for the administration of St. John’s Hospice to please look into this matter,” a spokesperson for the families said. This report, they emphasize, comes from more than five different families within this year alone, all sharing similar grievances about the doctor’s approach. This is the first main report being submitted collectively to draw urgent attention to the issue.
