Antigua operates its high-end passenger airports on both of its islands by segregation, discrimination and monopoly, all in violation of international regulations. In Antigua all black and local Ground Handling Aircraft Operators are restricted from doing business on Runway 10 where they must give their aircraft business to the expatriate operator.
The four Operators at VCBIA in Antigua are all banned from doing business on RWY10, which they have been doing since FBO 2000 had the deserted Runway refurbished and functional in 2000.

In Barbuda a fully equipped building has been built to serve the Rich & Famous while the locals are served in a makeshift tent-like area separate from the Rich. Further, the owners of the FBO are not aviators and have a proprietary management approach to the FBO operations rather than the Regulatory demands and expectations.
Clearly oversight in Barbuda will be a serious issue, and the exposure to nefarious activity will be a concern.
Not only are the hard working locals barred from the services which they originated, but the financial returns of any sophisticated business deals are denied to the black people of our country.
The wood and water carriers of the old colonial days continue into our economic powerhouse (sic) today, where the poor are still the workers of our imported rich.
In the last years the fight to keep big and important business in the control of the white, Arab and lately, Chinese and Indian companies has caused several local businesses to fail.
And, as the Government is the powerhouse in this economic discrimination, we see Government officials and their department heads getting richer, with big properties and expensive cars.

Airports can offer great incentives for corrupt enterprises and Government collusion. Already we have seen our International Airport and RWY10 in particular, used to establish one of the world’s biggest money laundering and fraud operations, which was supported by our Government.
The Government has made it law that no Operator at VCBIA can handle private jets on RWY10, permitting again just 1 expatriate investor for the second time in 25 years. The last time it took five years of legal wrangling all the way to the Privy Council for the local operator to be allowed to remain on location and earn.
Antigua is once more going to waste the people’s money defending white business against black local entrepreneurs. And the fear of reprisals against their commercial business prevents the other local operators from objecting to the business discrimination by ABAA and the Ministry of Aviation.

The Government needs to support its people in their desire to be independent business operators, as any truly independent country should.
