On Tuesday night, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) team, including Prime Minister Gaston Browne, Minister of Education, Sports and Creative Industries Hon. Daryl Matthew, and Senator Dwayne George, ABLP caretaker for St. Mary’s South, hosted a town hall meeting at the Bolans Play Field. The event was intended to showcase progress and plans for the constituency, but it quickly turned into a display of deflection and half-truths.

Hon. Kelvin Simon, M.P. for St. Mary’s South, confronted the ABLP leaders, demanding clarity on their unmet promises and slow-moving projects. Chief among his concerns were two significant by-election campaign promises that remain incomplete, much to the frustration of constituents.

Unfinished Stadium Seating at Bolans Playing Field

The ABLP had pledged to build stadium seating at the Bolans Playing Field, issuing a $200,000 cheque in August 2023. However, very little work has been done, leaving residents questioning the delay. “Where the money gone?” Simon asked pointedly, underscoring the lack of accountability and transparency surrounding the project.

Urlings Primary School AC Units: Fact vs. Fiction

Simon also debunked claims made during the town hall about the air conditioning units installed at the Urlings Primary School. While the ABLP representatives insisted that all units were functional, Simon’s visit to the school this morning revealed the truth: only five of the twelve units are operational. This discrepancy further highlights the ABLP’s pattern of misleading constituents.

Standing Up for St. Mary’s South

Simon’s proactive approach of visiting both the Bolans Playing Field and Urlings Primary School demonstrates his commitment to exposing the ABLP’s failures and advocating for the people of St. Mary’s South.

“The people of this constituency deserve better than empty promises and propaganda,” Simon stated firmly. “I will not stand by while my constituents are ignored and misled. The ABLP must be held accountable for their poor performance and lack of delivery on promises.”

A Commitment to Transparency and Progress

Hon. Kelvin Simon continues to shine a spotlight on the government’s inefficiencies, urging them to prioritize the needs of St. Mary’s South. From neglected infrastructure to broken campaign promises, Simon is determined to ensure that his constituents’ voices are heard and their concerns addressed.
