HomeCARIBBEAN NEWSLETTER: Aperture over Antigua a goldmine
spot_imgspot_img

DEAR EDITOR:

In the year 2000, Paul Allen, Microsoft founder and computer scientist approached the then Prime Minister of Antigua, Lester B. Bird requesting the use of “the Aperture.”

As we all know bright people are the first to admit lack of knowledge, and in response to his questioning, the P.M. was told that it was an opening in the stratosphere, which made it much easier to monitor space through the opening.

The Paul Allen request was an eye opener to the few who knew little about it, and as its importance was considered negligible due to the U.S. control of the space rights from the lands they leased on the peninsula.

It is said that the absence of proper advice by his Space Exploration technicians, President Obama included Antigua in the several U.S. Base closures, those of which were considered unnecessary, forgetting the strategic resources of the headquarters of the island chosen to prevent American entry through the Caribbean backyard.

Further discovery on the ‘Aperture’ located this ‘hole of clarity’ over Antigua & Montserrat, and one’s remember hearing that the world’s biggest telescope was placed on Chances Peak in Montserrat. It was later removed due to the volcano eruption. The telescope was said to be relocated to the Antigua Air Station.

To quote ChatGPT on the Aperture, Antigua, Unique Geological attributes: “Antigua’s proximity to the equator makes it geographically advantageous for activities related to space. This equatorial location allows spacecraft launched from nearby sites to benefit from Earth’s rotational velocity, which provides an extra boot to rockets head into orbit. While Antigua itself does not have a launch facility, its role as a tracking station in the Eastern Range benefits from this attribute…..

While Antigua does not host a launch site or major observatories, its equatorial position and favorable stratospheric conditions give it unique attributes for an aperture conducive to tracking, telemetry and potentially other space related operations.”

Clearly the decommissioning of the US Antigua Station was a big oversight, by those who failed to consider the rush to develop platforms in outer space by the Chinese, Russians, Indians following the U.S. first off earth Space Program; (this is of course noting the first Russian Sputnik). Antigua now holds a secret treasure which could be used as weapon by hostile elements or a most resourceful location for further Space Development.

When one considers the historical importance of the first man-made signal from Space hitting Antigua and then bouncing off to Patrick Airforce Base in Florida, the NASA Tracking Station and Antigua Air Station are already part of Space Exploration history.

The time has come with NASA planning a convention in Antigua very soon, where we can invite commercial Space Explorers to consider redeveloping our Space opportunities. NASA recognizing the importance of Antigua in the history of Space, could trigger a new path for our small islands of Antigua & Montserrat, over whom a treasure opens a clear path to the stars.
