HomeCARIBBEAN NEWSLETTER: Going Dread, there is no Undread
spot_imgspot_img

DEAR EDITOR:

Dread as a way of life was practically unknown until Rastafari was revealed to the people of Jamaica and spread throughout the Caribbean by University of the West Indies students for the most part. And dread does not just refer to locks, it is the righteous living of a freed person, gaining the right to say a categorical ’NO’ to anything that degrades one existence.

Dread adopted by the Rastafari community in Jamaica soon spread into the consciousness of the islands’ people. It is a ‘stand your ground’ on righteousness and clean living which are important principles within the foundation of Rastafari and those who recognize their god within.

However, as man has the element of change, many a dread has gotten caught up with the stress of being good in a deteriorating world order and have degenerated to evil choices. Their dreadness however did not disappear, it just reprogrammed to do evil with the same dreadful stance of a categorical ’NO’ to goodness.

This change in the presentation of dread has resulted in gangs, where the dreadful measures used to define them and their lifestyle has turned murderous and rapacious. This deadly behaviour is being encouraged by politicians who have encouraged gangs to create garrisons in their political communities, unleashing death and destruction.

The Caribbean is being taken over by gangs of young persons who think they have nothing to lose, and gain nothing from their country, except what is taken by force and the weapon. The freedom to rage is endorsed by their leaders once the youth are in their control, and carry out their wishes.

The infusions of foreign elements into the Caribbean community comes with their own culture of guns to control those poor and rejected into criminals. The flow of guns into the region appears to be following a pattern where young men are being armed to kill each other and create chaos.

The big question is, to what end? Where is this force of guns coming from? Antigua’s gun manufacturing factory planned by YIDA was fortunately foiled by exposure of Observer, informing the nation that our island was chosen by Chinese investment to produce guns for the region and beyond.

It is clear now that the wolves have seized the attire of the sheep to execute their dreadful wickedness on the people. Further, as dreadlocks are now a fashion item, more confusion reigns in separating the wolves from the sheep, and the negative criminal behaviour is for the most part is becoming normalized as dread.

This is infra-dig of Rastafari!
