HomeCARIBBEAN NEWSLETTER: The big airport cover up
spot_imgspot_img

DEAR EDITOR:

Where is the Director of Safety & Security for VCBIA? It is whispered in conspiratorial tones, that he was given a big disappearance package, which brought to a close any investigation into two illegal businesses under his watch, operating on the airport restricted zones for years. This was discovered through a complaint by an airline affected by the absence of Security in the handling of their aircraft.

This is the same individual that caused Antigua and St. Kitts to be flagged for his arriving into the U.S. with restricted and dangerous contents in his briefcase. Antigua, like Trinidad, has serious issues which refuse to disappear from the list of failures at their airports, and which get continuously put on the back burner, instead of solving and running clean operations. The old Piarco Airport scandal is still alive today, in spite of the operatives’ disappearance into other airports around the world.

Corruption in Government and especially in Statutory bodies is a given in most countries these days. Sympathy is scarce because it takes a corruptor and a corruptee, and the money-power of the corruptor is important to the success of the scheme.

Like Piarco, Antigua will allow the perpetrators to leave the country rather than face the investigation, and thereby expose the facts to all and sundry. As in Antigua’s recent disappearance of their signatory holder for authorizing of persons operating in the restricted zone, any investigation is likely to touch several important persons above the level of the authority, as any criminal behaviour normally does.

This activity and its outcome can only be blanketed and hidden for a time, as the innocent are blamed and accused unfairly, to cover up the corruption of the Airport personnel involved. The time has come to ask questions regarding the operation of the airport under the watch of the Minister responsible, the Chairman & CEO of ABAA, and the obfuscation of the facts pertaining to the permission given to two illegal operations on VCBIA. The illegals existed for a minimum of three years, until recently discovered by the airline affected and addressed by their local ground operator.

The investigative urgency of this matter is being contained in a coverup, whereby a package to disappear is said to have been given to each of the perpetrators, one who left in contention with the Government, and the more recent one leaving stealthily with the blessing of those in authority.

Meanwhile in total Mafia style, VCBIA searching for a fall guy to replace their vanished Official, is calling out the ground handlers as illegal operators. Additionally, the haste to put one of the handlers out of business has become a top Government operation. Governments today think disappeared people and bankrupted businesses leave no clues.
