A 7.6 magnitude earthquake has struck between The Cayman Islands and Honduras, triggering a major tsunami alert for parts of the Western Caribbean and Central America. The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services says there is no threat at this time for Antigua and Barbuda, but it is monitoring the situation and will provide further updates if the situation changes. The earthquake struck at 7:23pm Atlantic Standard Time. It was initially reported to have been a magnitude 8.0, but this was later revised to 7.6. Met Office Director, Dale Destin says the latest update from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre indicates that The Cayman Islands, Cuba and Honduras could be at risk from tsunamis within the next few hours.
