PARAMARIBO – A number of political parties are still busy forming an alliance which will be known as OptSu. These parties have already had several meetings at various moments but they still have not reached a formal agreement. Sources told Times of Suriname that the negotiations are progressing slowly as two parties are still fighting for a better spot on the list of candidates.

Previous reports indicate that the three top positions on the list will go to the Surinamese Labor Party, the Progressive Laborers and Farmers’ Union and the Party for a Liveable Suriname. The documents which make the alliance official must still be discussed and signed. The political parties that will be part of OptSu also have to determine their election strategy. OptSu will reportedly consist of a dozen small parties that believe that there is strength in numbers. The new political bloc hopes to muster up enough strength to take on the biggest political party.
