
Six more athletes have met the CARIFTA qualifying standards following the Louis Lynch Championships at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex last weekend.

The new athletes who qualified were Talons’ Nyema Taylor who amassed 4067 points in the girls Under-20 heptathlon, Bosen Academy’s Rashad Gibson in the boys Under-20 400m hurdles (54.40), Pacers’ Jayden Green in the boys Under-20 200m (21.21), Elite Distance Program’s Ashlyn Simmons in the 1500m (4:49.02) and 800m (2:14.35), Elite Distance Program’s Aidan Morris in the boys Under-17 400m dash (49.12) and Elite Distance Program’s Chanecia Bryan in the girls Under-17 800m (2:20.27).

Athletes who already qualified continued to show their consistency, surpassing the qualifying standards at the meet as well.

Alleyne School’s Aniya Nurse showcased her speed with winning times of 11.73 seconds and 24.05 seconds in the open women’s 100m and 200m respectively.

Elite Distance Program’s Aaron Morris continued his strong performances over the season by clocking 47.96 seconds in the men’s 400m open and 1:53.02 seconds in the 800m. Talons’ Teon Haynes took flight as he leapt to 7.14 metres in the men’s long jump open while Extreme Velocity’s Tarell Johnson-Rouse was impressive once again in the boys Under-20 400m with a time of 48.24 seconds.

Next up for athletes will be the National Junior Championships which are slated for February 28 to March 2 at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex.
