Golf Association expands CSEC Physical Education Programme with President’s College

Kaieteur Sports- The Guyana Golf Association (GGA) continues to drive the expansion of golf in secondary schools, with President’s College becoming the latest institution to benefit from the programme that encourages students to choose golf as their Physical Education (PE) elective for CSEC examinations.

In a strong show of commitment, GGA president Aleem Hussain personally assisted in preparing the school’s playing field, ensuring not only golf but other sports such as football, track and field, and volleyball now have a proper training facility.
The HM and Sir. Willon Cameron, Senior Assistant Master expressed deep appreciation for the initiative, highlighting the transformative impact on the school’s sports programmes.
“The assistance provided by Mr. Hussain has been a blessing. Our ground was virtually unusable for months due to overgrown grass, but thanks to his efforts, we can now conduct daily training sessions for multiple sports, including golf. Additionally, his hands-on coaching of students preparing for CSEC PE has been invaluable,” he stated.
With its upgraded facilities, President’s College now plans to host community sporting events and competitions to generate funds for ground maintenance and other school programmes.
Since 2021, the Ministry of Education and the GGA have collaborated to introduce golf in secondary schools, providing training, equipment, balls, and a structured syllabus for PE teachers.
As a result, thousands of students across dozens of schools now have access to golf, making Guyana the regional leader in student participation in golf for PE – despite not having a full golf course.
