Mark Carney, the former head of the UK and Canada central banks, will succeed Justin Trudeau as Canada’s Prime Minister. Carney, 59, was announced the winner of the Liberal leadership race on Sunday, making him Canada’s first prime minister to be appointed without being elected. His victory came after Trudeau gave a teary-eyed farewell address in which he emphasized the party has a “responsibility to ensure Canada stays the best country on earth.” More to come
