Jagan’s Memorial Cycle Road Race returns to Berbice this weekend

Kaieteur Sports- Following an electrifying first stage dominated by seasoned cyclist Briton John, the highly anticipated three-stage Jagan’s Memorial Cycle Road Race is set to return to the Berbice District this Sunday for its second leg. Organised by the Flying Ace Cycle Club, this annual event continues to attract top cyclists and enthusiastic fans alike.
Scenes from Jagan’s Memorial 2024, this year’s event is set to attract an even larger participation.
This prestigious event pays tribute to the Jagans, a couple who hold a unique place in Guyana’s history, both having served as Presidents. Since the passing of this distinguished former leader of the PPP/C Cheddi Jagan on March 6, 1997, supporters have remained committed to sponsoring this esteemed competition, which honours their enduring contributions to the nation.
As always, transportation will be provided for participants, with departures scheduled from Freedom House, Robb Street, on Sunday, March 23, at 05:30 hrs.
The race will officially commence at 08:30 hrs, with cyclists making their way to Corriverton before returning to Babu-John for the thrilling finish.
Veterans (50+) will conclude their race at Babu-John during the upward journey.
Cycling enthusiasts can expect a day of exhilarating competition, with top-tier athletes battling for supremacy.
The stakes are high, as the winner of the Senior’s race will claim a grand prize of $40,000. Trophies and financial incentives will be awarded to cyclists placing 1st-3rd and 1st-6th in the elite race.
