Kaieteur News- Deondray Clarke, a 25-year-old Prison Officer of Stanley Town, New Amsterdam, Berbice was placed on bail on Friday, when he appeared in court on a narcotics charge.

It is alleged that on March 19, 2025, at Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara, Clarke attempted to smuggle 28.4 grams of cannabis into the prison. Clarke was arrested and charged with the offence, Contrary to Section 7(1) (a) (i) of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.

He appeared at Vigilance Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Sunil Scarce, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded not guilty and was placed on $100,000 bail. The matter was adjourned to April 24, 2025.
