PUNTA GORDA TOWN, Toledo District, Thurs. Mar. 20, 2025

Police have charged the person who they believe is responsible for the shooting death of Dueton Coy of Punta Gorda Town on Sunday night, March 16.

Dueton Coy, deceased

On the night of the shooting, Coy had been socializing and drinking beer with two other male persons at the local cemetery. Soon after, the sound of gunshots was heard, and when police arrived at the scene, they saw Coy’s body on the ground.

At the time, a single person had been detained by the police and another was being sought. However, on Wednesday, March 19, the Belize Police Department announced that 25-year-old Roland Cody Lopez, a laborer of Punta Gorda Town, was charged with the murder.

Reports are indicating that Coy was shot during an argument that erupted over $30 that Coy allegedly owed one of the men.
