Kaieteur News- President Irfaan Ali, has warned that several major developmental projects in Region Six could be jeopardised if the Opposition wins the upcoming general elections.

“My friends, let me just give you a taste of what you will put at risk if you are not politically-conscious,” Ali said as he addressed a gathering at Babu Jaan, Corentyne, Berbice, on Sunday afternoon. The event was held to celebrate the legacy of former President Dr. Cheddi Jagan.
During his remarks, Ali underscored that the PPP/C has exceeded its manifesto commitments. “We are not about power; we are about responsibility, that is what we want government for,” he said. With elections slated to be held later this year, Ali cautioned those gathered at the memorial not to vote for the opposition. After highlighting the investments, the government has made in Region Six over the past four years, President Ali then outlined several major projects that could be impacted if the opposition takes power, including the new four-lane high bridge over the Berbice River. “In New Amsterdam, not only the synthetic track but the new hospital, a new medical school,” Ali stated.
He also pointed to a new four-lane road to Moleson Creek and Canje, the municipal airport at Rose Hall, and developments such as hotels, malls, private hospitals, and a new stadium. “Tens of thousands of new homes, supermarket to entertainment sector,” he added.

Other projects mentioned included the new national deep-water port, new gas development, phase two of the Gas-to-Energy (GTE) project, a logistics hub, a new digital school, functional sugar estates, and the Corentyne River Bridge. “Opening up of land, expanding productivity and opportunity, not forgetting the national skills training centre that will be training people from around the world, the national hospitality institute,” Ali continued.
He then stressed that empowerment, development, and a bright future for Guyana are also at stake. “An amazing story ahead of us but you can lose all of this if you lose your political consciousness, you put all of this at risk if you fall prey to the spineless,” he said. President Ali concluded with a stark warning about the opposition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the Alliance For Change (AFC). “Every force against us is one of the same evil forces, the APNU AFC force. Make no mistake, they will use individuals,” Ali warned.
