Ramadan Mubarak to the Muslim community.
As the close of the month beckons, I am compelled to (once again) lament the noticed absence of female presenters in both the early morning Ramadan programmes, on both TV and radio, by two established organizations. Is it to be understood that there is a lack of sisters to do a Quoranic reading or feature presentation?
One of the two organisations has two female presenters (one was on Monday, March 24), but besides these two sisters no one else. Certainly, the other organization has never presented any female presenter. Must the religion remain always male dominated?
Remaining on Ramadan and turning to the Ramadan Village. Certainly, it is bigger and better this year. However, one observation is noted: being held in the Lenten Season and open to non-Muslims more dishes for vegetarians and catering to those not eating meat should have been considered. For the future during the last ten days, which is significant, it is suggested the Village should be open as many days as possible and not only on the weekend.
All in all, the Ramadan Village has kept the culture and religious aspects alive and all must be congratulated and commended for their hard work and commitment to its success.
I take this opportunity to extend warm Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to all Guyana.
