Kaieteur News- A 73-year-old pensioner was found dead on Wednesday morning in his apartment at John’s Guest House, located at Lot 100 Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.

The deceased has been identified as Aubrey Calder. According to police, Calder was discovered by his relative, 54-year-old vendor Nyshell Jemmott from Sophia, who assisted him with cleaning his room. The discovery was made around 09:30 hrs.

Jemmott told police that Calder had been living at John’s Guest House for the past four years and was diagnosed with prostate cancer some time ago, receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). On Wednesday, Calder contacted her via phone and asked for her assistance in cleaning his room.

“She went over to his apartment, and while cleaning, she noticed Calder sitting in his chair with his head leaned to one side and he was unresponsive. She said she called out to him several times but got no answer,” police said.

Jemmott immediately raised an alarm, and police along with Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were summoned to the scene. Upon arrival, they found Calder sitting upright in his chair with his head leaning to the right. He was officially pronounced dead by a doctor.

The scene was processed and photographed by a technician. “His body was examined, but no marks of violence were seen, and no foul play was suspected. Nevertheless, several persons were questioned,” police added.  The body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
