Jermaine Saran

On March 22, 2025 at Water Street, Georgetown, Jermaine Saran of Lot 7 Lamaha Park Squatting Area was arrested for possession of 195.5 grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. He pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him by Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty.

Saran was represented by attorney-at-law, Dominic Bess. He told the court that on the day in question, his client was at his stall at Stabroek Market, where another vendor also plies their trade. Bess told the court that the police conducted a search at a nearby stall that is approximately 20 yards away from his client when they found the marijuana.

The lawyer contended that his client was in police custody for allegedly having 140 grams of suspected marijuana but is now charged for 195.5 grams. He later revealed that there was no confirmation that the items found was indeed marijuana. For their part, the prosecution stated that the defendant was under close observation, since he was seen selling an unknown substance to numerous individuals out of a push cart. The prosecution case states that the police conducted a search on the said push cart that was located in Saran’s stall where they found leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be marijuana. Magistrate McGusty granted Saran bail and he is scheduled to return to court on April 23, 2025.
