…legal advice will be sent for child abuse charge
Kaieteur News- A 26-year-old construction worker was remanded on Thursday, when he appeared at the Linden Magistrate’s Court, on a charge assault, which he allegedly committed against his wife, Sawdia Bobb.
The accused, Kester Johnson made his first court appearance before Magistrate Ruschelle Liverpool, who read the charge to him. He pleaded not guilty to the charge that states he assaulted Bobb on March 23, 2025. The Magistrate remanded Johnson and he is scheduled to return to court on April 23, 2025 for trial. Johnson is also accused of child abuse. Reports indicate that Johnson was arrested by police on Tuesday, after he reportedly made a video of his one-year-old daughter hanging from a tree with bed sheets around her neck at Lot 218 Blueberry Hill, Wismar, Linden.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday last, around 22:26hrs. Police reported that investigations revealed that the mother of the child Sawdia Bobb, shared a relationship with Johnson for ten years and they have three children together.
Prior to the horrific incident, the mother highlighted that during the second week of February 2025, Johnson allegedly slapped her during an argument over a voice note, causing her to leave and stay with a friend for several days. Police stated that on March 23, 2025, Bobb became involved in a physical altercation with Johnson at their Blueberry Hill, Wismar home. Following that, Bobb went to the Wismar Police Station and made a report about abuse and assault against Johnson.
“However, she did not give a written statement, claiming she would return but never did,” police stated. On Tuesday at about 15:25hrs, after receiving information, ranks from Wismar Police Station contacted Bobb and interviewed her about a video showing her child being ill-treated. The video showed the toddler was in an unpleasant state, with bed sheets wrapped around her neck, while she was hanging from a tree. The child was seen crying and gasping for air.
The mother claimed that she had the video on her phone, but deleted it because she did not want anyone to know about it due to her daughter’s age. Police said, “Sawdia was asked to retrieve the video from her ‘trash’, which she did, and she showed the police a video of her child hanging from a sheet.” Thereafter, an investigation was launched, which revealed that Johnson made the video and sent it to Bobb’s phone. The suspect was arrested, and both Bobb and her mother’s phones were lodged for the video to be extracted.
