Kaieteur Sports– Left-arm spinner Ashmead Nedd and speedster Isai Thorne will make a return to the Guyana Harpy Eagles (GHE) squad for the sixth and seventh rounds of the West Indies Four-Day Championship which restarts April 2.

“Nedd strengthens the spin department, while Thorne’s return bolsters the fast-bowling unit, both crucial as the Harpy Eagles push to retain their title. His (Thorne) presence enhances the team’s ability to secure vital fast-bowling points in the upcoming rounds,” read a statement from the GCB.
West Indies Test spinner Gudakesh Motie will be unavailable for the final rounds as he departs for franchise cricket commitments, with opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul missing another round due to injury.
The defending champions will battle the Leeward Islands Hurricanes (LIH) from St. Kitts before flying out to the Twin-Island Republic to play the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force (TTRF), from April 9 at Queen’s Park Oval, in the final round.
The undefeated GHE currently leads the Points Table with 102.6 points, which was accumulated from four victories and a drawn encounter. Sitting in a very close second is the team from the Twin Island Republic on 101 points.
Red Force is also undefeated in this year’s campaign and also has four wins and a draw under their belt, which will make for an interesting penultimate round between the top runners.
A battle ensues for third place between LIH and Barbados Pride (BP) as the former occupies that spot with 79.6 points from three wins, a loss and a draw while Pride sits in fourth with 78 points which they accumulated from three wins and two losses.
Jamaica Scorpions (JS) has two wins and three losses for a total of 59.8 points in fifth while the only other team with a victory, the Windward Islands Volcanoes (WIV), is sixth with 45.8 points. Of the other four matches contested by WIV, they lost three and played to a draw in the other.

The other two teams, Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) and West Indies Academy (WIA), have yet to secure a victory, but unfortunately, have both suffered four defeats and a draw. CCC is in the penultimate spot with 26.6 points while WIA is in the cellar with 25 points.
On Wednesday, April 2, the penultimate round of 4-day bouts will commence as CCC meets WIA at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground in Trinidad, WIV battles BP at the Daren Sammy Stadium while St Lucia and TTRF go head-to-head with JS at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in a day/night affair.
Meanwhile, individual batting and bowling performances have been impressive with TTRF’s Khary Pierre leading the Most Wickets list while his senior teammate, Jason Mohammed, is atop the Most Runs list with a combined total of 519.
Pierre has claimed 31 wickets while GHE’s Veerasammy Permaul is in second with 26 wickets, WIA’s Joshua Bishop has 21 alongside Pride’s Jomel Warrican and GHE’s Ronaldo Alimohamed round out the top five with 20 wickets.
In the batting department, Mohammed leads second place holder, Jonathan Drakes (416) of BP, by 103 runs, John Campbell has scored 402 runs for the Scorpions, J Andrew (LIH) is fourth with 390 runs and TTRF’s Joshua DaSilva is fifth with 379 runs.
