Kaieteur News- Police have arrested a 24-year-old man who allegedly stabbed a 28-year-old man to death on Thursday night at the Kwakwani Waterfront, Region 10.
The dead man has been identified by police as ‘Blacka’ while the suspect has been named as Daniel Hartman.
Hartman reportedly lived with his older brother, 28-year-old Nicholas Hartman, in a wooden house.
Police in a statement said that Daniel left his home in August 2024 to work in Georgetown and returned to Kwakwani on Thursday. Upon his arrival around 22:00hrs, he found ‘Blacka’ at his house with his brother, Nicholas.
“Daniel Hartman asked his brother Nicholas what ‘Blacka’ was doing at his house, and Nicholas told him that they were friends and he allowed him to stay since ‘Blacka’ was looking for a job,” the police said.
An argument ensued between ‘Blacka’ and Daniel over Blacka’s refusal to leave the house. Nicholas later left the house during the argument.
However, 15 to 20 minutes later, he returned and discovered ‘Blacka’ lying in a pool of blood in the hallway with a knife beside him. Nicholas immediately reported the matter to the police. The bleeding man was rushed to the Kwakwani Hospital Complex but was later pronounced dead.
Upon examination, Blacka’s body showed multiple wounds on his lower back and chest. The body has been taken to the Kwakwani Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Police later located Daniel and arrested him. “Daniel Hartman admitted to the allegation and informed the ranks that he and ‘Blacka’ had an issue with him staying at his house. Blacka refused to leave, and they had a scuffle during which he stabbed him with a knife,” the police stated.
Daniel is in police custody assisting with investigations.
