Kaieteur News-Â A health worker and a businesswoman were placed on bail on Monday for allegedly assaulting each other.
The defendants, Marcelle Abraham and 32-year-old Azola Austin, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Senior Magistrate Fabayo Azore, who read the charges.
Austin pleaded not guilty, while Abraham pleaded guilty.
Austin was charged with assaulting Abraham on March 9, 2025 at Farm Sophia, Georgetown. Meanwhile, on the same day at the said address, Abraham assaulted Austin.
Abraham told the court that they have an ongoing issue, and Austin is a tenant in her apartment. She said that on the day in question, Austin ran into her at the doorway and a confrontation ensued.
The prosecution had no objections to bail and told the court that what was shared by Abraham were the facts of the incident.
Magistrate Azore released Austin on self-bail, and Abraham was fined $10,000 for the assault charge. The matter was adjourned until April 14, 2025.
