Kaieteur Sports- April 12 marks the beginning of a new era in Guyanese cue sports, as the Cue Sports Association of Guyana (CSAG Inc.) teams up with Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey to Cue off the country’s first-ever National 9-Ball Championship.
In what is being hailed as the most significant cue sports event in Guyana’s history, the championship is poised to elevate the local pool scene by introducing a faster-paced and more electrifying version of the game. Unlike the traditional 8-ball, 9-ball pool is known for its dynamic shot-making, skillful jump shots, and strategic kicking, qualities that promise to bring a new level of excitement to both players and spectators alike.
The competition, which officially cues off on April 12, will span three action-packed weekends and unfold across three popular venues: Sunil and Son Pool Bar, Embassy American Style Sports Bar, and Suraj Sports Bar. The grand finale is scheduled for May 4.
The format will see competitors face off in a double-elimination structure, ensuring that only the most consistent and skillful players rise to the top. With over 60 matches scheduled, each game will contribute valuable ranking points to determine year-end standings—a first for Guyanese pool.
“This tournament is not just about crowning a champion; it’s about raising the bar for competitive pool in Guyana,” said a representative from CSAG Inc. “We’re creating a pathway for local players to develop, gain recognition, and eventually represent Guyana on the international stage.”
With a prize pool totaling over $600,000, the stakes are high. The champion will walk away with a lucrative $200,000, while the runner-up will claim $150,000. Third and fourth-place finishers will each receive $75,000, and those finishing fifth through eighth will be awarded $25,000 apiece.
Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey headlines the tournament as the official title sponsor, with generous support from Web-Source Guyana, Global Imaging Services, Andy’s Auto Spares, Mandy Mangru, and the hosting venues.
As anticipation builds, cue sports enthusiasts across the country are expected to flock to the venues to witness history in the making. More than just a tournament, the National 9-Ball Championship aims to ignite a movement, paving the way for future stars and a new era of competitive pool in Guyana.
