Mechanic shot 5 times during home invasion

Kaieteur News- A 23-year-old mechanic sustained five gunshot wounds to his body from two gunmen during a home invasion at Haslington, New Scheme, East Coast Demerara (ECD) early on Monday.
Kaieteur News was told that Keran Persaud, along with his 21-year-old brother, Navin Persaud, were conducting mechanical works on a vehicle at their Haslington home between 00:00h and 01:00h when gunmen pounced upon them.
The younger Persaud said that while servicing the vehicle, he left to retrieve tools from the front of the yard. It was there that he was confronted by the two masked gunmen.
“By the time I raise up back, two gun man come in the yard and tell me, ‘don’t move.’”He said he attempted to disarm one of the men, but while doing so, he heard the gun being cranked and realised it was real.
Navin said he fled into the house to alert his father who was asleep.
When he returned, he found his brother lying injured beside the car. “He deh lye down at the side of the car, and he a bleed out,” the brother stated. The victim sustained five gunshot wounds, two to the abdomen, one to the shoulder, and two to his right foot.
A neighbour who heard the commotion rendered assistance to the injured Keran. He was rushed to the nearby Melanie Fire Station, after which he was taken to GPHC. He was admitted, and his condition is listed as critical. Persaud is unable to move on his own.
Kaieteur News learned that the gunmen, who were dressed in black with masks only revealing their eyes, did not steal anything. “The bandits didn’t steal anything, because, he react to them, he fight, and I try to pull the gun off of them but after I see real gun them crank it, I run inside,” the younger brother stated.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage reportedly shows the perpetrators observing the Persaud’s property. The gunmen fled the scene in the direction of Golden Grove.
Police are investigating the matter.
