St. Rose’s crowned Georgetown champions in Cheddi Jagan Memorial Windball Cricket Competition

Kaieteur Sports- St. Rose’s High School was crowned champions of the Georgetown leg of the Cheddi Jagan Memorial Windball Cricket competition, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) in collaboration with the National Sports Commission (NSC). They secured a commanding 73-run victory over Brickdam Secondary in the final held at the National Gymnasium.

Brickdam Secondary advanced to the final after a solid 21-run win against Tucville Secondary in the semi-final. Batting first, Brickdam posted 104-1, with Erick Phillips leading the charge with an unbeaten 55 that featured seven towering sixes. Dilshan Coach supported with a handy 24. In reply, Tucville were restricted to 83-2. Mark July scored 32 before being caught, while Shan Raimoon contributed 25 and Colin McLeod remained not out on 12. David Sardinha starred with the ball for Brickdam, claiming two wickets.
Riding high on confidence, Brickdam faced St. Rose’s High in the final. However, St Rose’s High prevailed to the crown. Batting first, St. Rose’s piled on 113-3, thanks to a blistering knock from Noel Madramootoo, who smashed eight sixes in a dominant 68-run display. Joshua Sharma added a useful 32 before being bowled, while Ezekiel Ramaught chipped in with 14 runs.
In response, Brickdam struggled against a disciplined St. Rose’s bowling attack and were restricted to just 40-5. Erick Phillips and Carren Newton were the only batsmen to reach double figures. Shivay Bissondyal impressed with the ball, taking 2 for 0, while Madramootoo, Sharma, and Akeen Lyght each picked up a wicket to seal a comprehensive win for St. Rose’s High.
The tournament, sponsored by the MCYS and NSC, was organized by Sports Officer A. Munroe.
