Kaieteur Sports- All eyes will be on the National Training Centre (NTC) this Sunday as the Guyana Football Federation’s Elite League serves up a thrilling doubleheader sure to excite fans and keep the momentum of Season VII alive.
In the opening clash, Santos FC will go toe-to-toe with league newcomers Mainstay Goldstar FC at 6:30 p.m., followed by a high-stakes showdown at 9:00 p.m. between defending champions Guyana Defence Force (GDF) FC and the always-spirited Fruta Conquerors FC.
This season has already shattered attendance records and reignited passion for local football. From dazzling finishes to pinpoint passing and shocking upsets, the league has delivered an electric atmosphere reminiscent of its glory days, rekindling national pride for what was once Guyana’s most followed sport.
At the top of the standings, Slingerz FC have emerged as early pacesetters. The Vergenoegen-based side boasts a flawless 4-0 record, accumulating 12 points and an eye-popping +23 goal difference. Den Amstel FC trails distantly in that department, though they remain competitive with a +9 GD.
Meanwhile, the race for top-four positioning is heating up. Guyana Police Force FC, Santos FC, and Western Tigers FC are all level on seven (7) points and locked in a tight battle for second place. Monedderlust FC sits just behind with six points from four matches, after splitting their campaign with two wins and two losses.
It’s been a rocky start for some of the league’s traditional heavyweights. GDF FC, Ann’s Grove United, and Fruta Conquerors all have five points, while Mainstay Goldstar FC remains winless, still in search of their first points after four straight defeats.
Sunday’s matches are not just about points; they’re about pride, recovery, and staking a claim in one of the most competitive seasons to date. Fans can expect nothing short of fireworks under the lights at the NTC.
