Missing teen fisherman found dead on Berbice foreshore

Kaieteur News- A 17-year-old fisherman who was reported missing since April 8, 2025, was found dead Friday afternoon on the foreshore of Kendalls Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
Fisherman found dead: Vishaul Parmanand
Vishal Parmanand, of Lot 23, Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice and another fisherman, Daniel Inshanali, were reported missing after their boat was discovered drifting at sea near Tain Beach along the Corentyne Coast, Region Six. Since their disappearance, their families, along with the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the Coast Guard, have been going out to sea daily hoping to find them alive.
Tragically, Parmanand’s body was discovered around 14:30hrs on Friday in an advanced state of decomposition. According to police, the body was found by a fisherman who immediately alerted relatives and authorities.
“Ranks responded accompanied by the deceased’s father, Mohit Parmanand, 54, and brother, Rohan Parmanand, 30, both of Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice,” the police stated.
Upon arrival, the authorities observed the body lying motionless on the foreshore. It was clad in a multicoloured short pants and a pink T-shirt, the same clothing Vishal was reportedly wearing at the time of his disappearance. No visible marks of violence were seen on the body, although police indicated that this could be due to the advanced state of decomposition.

The body was later transported to Bailey’s Funeral Home, where it currently lies awaiting a post-mortem examination. Investigations into the incident are ongoing while the search continues for Inshanali.
According to details surrounding the incident, Vishal’s father told police that around 11:00hrs on Monday, April 8, he travelled to Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, where he purchased a new boat and engine. His son had expressed interest in using the boat after the engine was installed.
“Both men then filled up the boat and departed Crabwood Creek, heading to Rosignol, West Coast Berbice by sea,” the father stated.
However, when the boat failed to arrive by 17:00hrs that day, Mohindranauth tried to contact his son but received no response. The following morning, around 10:00hrs, he was informed that the boat was seen drifting near Tain Koker, Corentyne. The engine was still attached, but the two men were nowhere in sight.
