Adriana to be laid to rest on June 22

Kaieteur News – Eleven-year-old Adriana Sueria Younge, who was found dead in a hotel swimming pool in April, will finally be laid to rest on June 22, nearly three months after her death.
Her family confirmed the burial date but has not yet disclosed specific details about the funeral service.
Adriana, a resident of Hyde Park, Parika, was discovered in the pool of the Double Day Hotel in Tuschen, Essequibo Coast, on the morning of April 24, 2025, nearly 20 hours after she was reported missing. She was last seen by her grandmother around 13:01 hrs on April 23 while swimming in the hotel’s pool.
Her lifeless body was retrieved by her father, Subrian Younge, when she was found floating in a standing position in the pool, prompting a national and international outcry. Her death has since attracted widespread attention, with many mourning her loss and calling for transparency in the investigation.
The family, who travelled to the United States with Adriana’s body for a second autopsy, returned to Guyana on Monday. The second autopsy was performed by forensic pathologist Dr. Carol Terry in Atlanta, Georgia. While Dr. Terry discussed some preliminary findings during a live interview with journalist Travis Chase, the autopsy report remains pending. According to the family’s lead attorney, Dr. Dexter Todd, Dr. Terry is awaiting further details from the Guyana Police Force before completing her report.
Despite the ongoing investigation, the Police Force announced on May 27 that Adriana’s death had been officially ruled a drowning. A press release from the Force stated that the certified findings from the autopsy confirmed that her death was consistent with drowning, and no evidence of trauma, assault, or any other criminal activity was found.
The initial post-mortem was conducted by a three-member international pathology team: Dr. Shubhakar Karra Paul (Barbados), Dr. Gary Collins (Chief Medical Examiner, Delaware, USA), and Dr. Glenn Rudner (Mount Sinai Hospital, USA). The team concluded that Adriana had drowned, likely sank to the bottom of the pool, and resurfaced due to natural decomposition processes typical in tropical climates.
The police also referenced the report of retired Royal Canadian Mounted Police investigator, Leonard McCoshan, which stated there was: “No evidence of foul play by persons named or unnamed during the investigation.”
Adriana’s family had expressed serious doubts about the official findings and remains adamant that she was murdered. Family members have called for a full independent investigation and are appealing to international agencies, including the FBI, Scotland Yard, and the RCMP, for assistance.
The police noted that detectives are preparing the investigative case file for submission to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal review.
As the family prepares to say goodbye, it remains committed to seeking justice and clarity in the case of young Adriana, a case that continues to raise questions, stir emotions, and demand answers.
