Kaieteur Sports – The stage is set for a blockbuster finish in the Georgetown Regional leg of the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) U18 Championship 2025, with just four teams left standing in the hunt for the title.
After an action-packed Friday night, the semi-final matchups are locked in and ready to tip off on Friday, June 20 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) on Homestretch Avenue.
St. Stanislaus College, President’s College, Government Technical Institute (GTI), and Queen’s College have all punched their tickets to the Final Four.
In the opening semifinal, it’ll be a ‘battle of the unbeatens’ as Saints (St. Stanislaus College) and President’s College, both sporting perfect 4–0 records go head-to-head for a spot in the championship game. Meanwhile, GTI will look to shut down Queen’s College’s hopes of another trip to the YBG finals in the second semi.
In Friday Night’s Recap, Queen’s College secured their semi-final berth with a convincing 38–22 win over School of the Nations. Darren Dublin lit up the scoreboard, dropping a game-high 20 points, more than half of QC’s total. Floor general Allan Patterson also stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points and eight boards in a strong two-way performance. On the other end, Dequan James led the way for Nations with 13 points, while Rudy Vancooten chipped in with 9 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.
In the night’s second game, St. Stanislaus College blew the doors off Plaisance Secondary in a 59–6 rout. Kadeem Beckles led all scorers with 18 points, while teammates Demitri Crandon and Rolson Pollard added 13 and 11 points respectively. Daniel Chisholm also got in on the action, dropping 10 points as Saints dominated on both ends of the court, holding Plaisance to single digits.
GTI booked their spot in the semis with a solid 41–23 win over North Georgetown Secondary. Jaheim Barnwell powered the offense with 14 points and 7 rebounds, while Alwyn Adams and Desmond Thornton contributed 9 and 6 points, respectively. North Georgetown’s Mekhi Ritchie and Sean Duncan fought hard, but the 18-point deficit was too much to overcome.
President’s College clinched the final semi-final slot with a gritty 29–23 win over St. Rose’s High. Romarion Wolfe made his presence felt with 9 points and 5 boards, while Romel Paul also added 9 points. Mattaniah Fordyce chipped in with 5 points and 6 rebounds to help seal the deal for PC. For St. Rose’s, Nathan Williams and Chaziah Bernard put up a valiant fight, but came up just short.
Meanwhile, in the girls’ bracket, President’s College ‘A’ rolled past Queen’s College with a 19–6 win, while PC ‘B’ advanced via walkover.
