Ascenio Cus, deceased

A police officer was killed in a hit-and-run accident on the Philip Goldson Highway in the early hours of Monday, July 28.
According to reports, around 1:30 a.m., 38-year-old police constable, Ascenio Cus, originally of Silver Creek Village, Toledo District, was heading toward Belize City from the direction of Ladyville on a motorcycle when he was struck from behind by a vehicle near Hakim Shipyard Bar & Grill at Mile 6.5 on the highway.
He was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital by a passerby, and was pronounced dead several hours later.
The driver of the vehicle which hit Cus did not stop to render aid, and has not yet been identified or detained, said ASP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander for the Belize Police Department’s Eastern Division. According to Romero, police continue to investigate the incident.
Cus was stationed at the Ladyville Police Station.
