Nisani Mendez wins Slam Dunk Contest

The Toucan All Stars bounced the Mayan All Stars, 134-105, when the Belize Premier Basketball League (BPBL) hosted its first ever All Stars Game at the Belize City Civic Center on Friday night, August 1.

MVP candidate Francis Arana struck 10 times from the outside the circle for 34 pts, grabbing 8 boards and dishing out 6 assists! The score was tied, 33-33, at the end of the first quarter; but Kirk Smith, Jr. struck thrice from outside the arc, as he and Jihad Wright shot 15 pts each, and the Toucans forged ahead, 65-58, at the half. Edgar Mitchell struck 4 times from outside the circle as he, Jamaal Clifton and Deshawn Bracket netted 12 pts each to put the Toucans up, 104-83, by the end of the 3rd quarter.

Danny Conorquie struck twice outside the arc for 8 pts, Tyrell Griffith and Kevon Laurie netted 6 pts apiece, and Malik Hunt dunked 4 pts to punctuate the 134-105 Toucan All Stars win.

Mayan All Stars’ Jaheim Ciego struck twice outside the circle for 30 pts, and Arik Nicholas struck thrice outside the arc, as he dunked 29 pts. Nisani Mendez hit a trey, as he posted 13 pts, Victor Evans laid up 10 pts, and Glency “Coope” Lopez scored 8 pts. Lindsay Young shot 7 pts, Eyan Rene netted 5 pts and John Kelly added 3 pts for the Mayan All Stars.

In the individual competitions, Aaron Allison of Cayo Western Ballers won the skills competition on Thursday night; while on Friday, Kirk Smith, Jr. of the Griga Dream Ballers was crowned the 3-pointer king. Nisani Mendez of the Capital City Kings won the slam dunk competition.
