BELIZE CITY, Mon. Sept. 15, 2025
A pair of fraternal twins was gunned down inside a home in rural Belize sometime in the afternoon on Monday, September 15. The deceased siblings were identified as Paula Belisle and Paul Esquilliano.
The siblings were killed inside Belisle’s wooden structure in Hattieville, Belize District, and were discovered by neighbors sometime after 3:00 p.m. While no official police report has been disclosed to the media, unconfirmed reports suggest that the pair was executed as a result of a family dispute.
A male partner of one of Belisle’s daughters reportedly proposed to bring another woman into the home, which was rejected by Belisle, and this infuriated him. He then fired a single gunshot at Belisle, and she died while being rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Meanwhile, reports are that her brother, Paul Esquilliano was shot three times in the back while trying to escape, and he died at the scene.
Esquilliano had recently retired from his occupation at the Belize City Council Works Department, and habitually visited Belisle daily to keep her company, as she had become a widow about a year ago.   The suspect has yet to be captured.
