BELIZE CITY, Wed. Oct. 1, 2025
Dr. Candice Pitts, the former Ambassador of Belize to the Republic of China (Taiwan), has been appointed to serve as the Belize City Council’s new City Administrator. The seat became vacant when its previous holder, Albert Vaughn, announced his resignation in late August of this year.
When Vaughn’s departure was officially announced, not much information was provided on what prompted his departure. Vaughn simply stated that he would be leaving his position at the end of October for “personal reasons.” Vaughan was credited with strengthening the council’s operations and moving forward key initiatives that benefited city residents.
Pitts will take up the position in November, following Vaughn’s departure. She has a background in education and public service, and holds a Ph.D. in English. She has also pursued advanced studies in diplomacy. She served as an educator at the University of Belize and other international universities. She also served as non-resident Ambassador to Japan. Pitts once served as a member of the Belize City Council in 2017.
