BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Oct. 9, 2025

On Thursday morning, October 9, a threat to bomb the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Coney Drive was made via a telephone call, leading to a suspension of the court’s morning session and the exit of its staff from the building.

The threat was reportedly made in a phone call that was received shortly after 9:00 a.m., causing the evacuation of the building. Persons who work in the building or who were scheduled to appear in court today, waited several feet away from the building as authorities secured the surrounding area, awaiting bomb experts to arrive at the scene.

However, after inspecting the area of the possible threat, the experts revealed the threat to be a hoax, and the day’s session resumed. While it is unclear why the threat was made, unconfirmed reports are that it was in an attempt to delay a case, due to a high-profile street figure who was set to appear in court that day.

The source of the call has so far not been identified. Police continue to investigate.
