Letters

Dear Editor,

The recent letter in the press written by Mr. Panday dated November 25th, 2025, concerning the mismanagement and the apparent pilferage of taxpayer funds at GuySuCo is unsettling and raises tremendous concern.

It paints a picture of a government involved in continually spending large sums of money without receiving the services and products purchased. The Auditor General, the Guyana Police Force and the new Anti-Corruption Unit must investigate this very serious matter. The implications are substantial and brings into question the honesty, integrity and intentions of the Ministry of Agriculture, current and past CEO’s of GuySuCo, the Board of GuySuCo, and most importantly the Office of the President under the stewardship of both Bharrat Jagdeo and Irfaan Ali.

If what has been stated in the letter is found to be true, charges of fraud and embezzlement should be brought against those involved. It is extremely concerning that our hard-working sugar workers and the people of Guyana have been given so many promises of an improved sugar industry that may now turn out to be just a cover for the theft of funds from the treasury with no real interest in improving the lives of the workers involved and the affected communities. The letter written by Mr. Panday must be taken very seriously by the authorities. The Guyanese people deserve a quick, thorough, and transparent fiscal investigation into this very serious matter. We the Guyanese people deserve answers! Corruption in government needs to sought out and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

With utmost concern,
Mr. Jamil Changlee
