NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Department of Inland Revenue (DIR) will continue its pursuit to collect over $30 million in back taxes from Sandals, Emerald, according to Acting Controller of the DIR Shonda Strachan.

The DIR conducted an audit that they say determined the resort owes The Bahamas government $29,195,112.67 in value added taxes (VAT) and $1,648,705.26 in business license fees.

However, the resort has challenged that assessment.

Strachan was tight-lipped on any updates concerning the ongoing matter, but confirmed that it is an ongoing matter before the court.

She also noted that the department is conducting other audits within other large businesses to determine how much money is owed to the government.
