Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle Responds to Dr. Mansoor’s Defection

Opposition leader Jamale Pringle has addressed concerns and speculation following the recent defection of Dr. Mansoor from the United Progressive Party (UPP).

In a statement issued over the weekend, Pringle acknowledged the emotions stirred by Mansoor’s departure but emphasized that the defection is not a reflection of the party’s direction or integrity.

Pringle firmly dismissed rumors of the UPP “crumbling” or “imploding,” attributing such claims to political maneuvering. “His defection has little or nothing to do with the direction in which the UPP is going,” he stated, reminding the public that just before the party’s April convention, Dr. Mansoor had spoken out strongly against the Labour Party administration’s corruption, expressing belief in the UPP as the solution to the country’s challenges.

However, Pringle noted that while the UPP’s principles and policies remain consistent, Dr. Mansoor has since shifted his stance. Pringle suggested that Mansoor’s decision was motivated by personal interests rather than genuine political principles. “No one defects from the people-first party to the self-enrichment party on the basis of principle, as we all know,” Pringle declared, accusing Mansoor of using party leadership as a scapegoat to justify his actions.

Despite the defection, Pringle urged UPP members, supporters, and well-wishers to remain focused and resilient. He warned that the Labour Party is employing a “well-funded strategy” to weaken the UPP by targeting its most vulnerable members. In response, he called for unity, encouraging supporters to resist attempts to undermine the party’s strength and integrity.

Pringle concluded his statement by expressing gratitude to those who have reaffirmed their loyalty and commitment to the UPP, pledging to continue the fight for the betterment of Antigua and Barbuda. “Let us keep the faith,” he urged, reinforcing his dedication to the party and its mission.
