Abram Zuil sweeps Essequibo leg of Jagan’s Memorial Windball Competition

Kaieteur Sports- The Essequibo leg of the Janet and Cheddi Jagan Memorial Windball Cricket competition wrapped up over the weekend at Zorg Ground, with Abram Zuil Secondary sweeping both the Boys’ and Girls’ titles. The tournament, organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport (MCYS) in collaboration with the National Sports Commission (NSC), concluded in thrilling fashion.

Abram Zuil Secondary has been making waves across the nation, and this time, they cemented their dominance by clinching both championships.
In the Girls’ final, Abram Zuil batted first and posted an imposing 73 runs without loss. Star batter Felicia Carter was the standout performer, smashing an unbeaten half-century (50 runs), which included seven sixes. She was well supported by Deeroya Morris, who remained not out on 10.
Aurora Secondary, needing 74 to win, started their chase positively but fell short at 67-2. Despite valiant efforts from Ackeela Stephen (24) and Orianna Gibson (15), Aurora couldn’t overcome Abram Zuil’s disciplined bowling attack, losing by seven runs.
Over in the Boys’ divisional final, Abram Zuil triumph once again dominated play, this time with a commanding 25-run victory. After being sent in to bat, they quickly got off to a strong start, with Eron Benjamin leading the charge with 27 runs. Jeremiah Innis contributed a crucial 19 as Abram Zuil posted 73-4.

In response, Anna Regina Multilateral struggled against an inspired bowling attack. Lester Noel was the chief destroyer, wreaking havoc with figures of 3-1, as Anna Regina faltered to 48-5. Darius Pearson (19) and Manav Samlall (10) were the only batters to reach double figures, but their efforts weren’t enough to challenge Abram Zuil’s total.
Meanwhile, in the lone Georgetown fixture, New Central High faced off against St Rose’s High. St Rose’s batted first and posted a competitive 76-0, with Sarah Persaud (42) and Jada Persaud (16) leading the charge.
However, New Central High’s Aaliyah produced a match-winning performance, smashing a blistering 48 runs to guide her team to victory. Finishing on 80-1, New Central secured a dominant nine-wicket win.
With the competition delivering exciting cricket action, Abram Zuil’s clean sweep further highlights their growing dominance in school Windball cricket.
