… hides in trench for four hours
Kaieteur News- An Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD) man was on Saturday evening stabbed in the face by another villager deemed to be mentally ill.
The mentally ill man, identified only as ‘Leo’ was behaving erratically and reportedly kept chanting his intention to kill someone. The victim was identified only as ‘Manni’, a young man in his 20s.
After stabling ‘Manni’, a fight ensued between them. Leo’s actions angered residents who assaulted him (Leo), who then sought refuge in a trench for nearly four hours.
Manni was able to contact the police who arrived shortly thereafter. Upon arrival, the law enforcement officials saw Leo standing in the middle of a trench, armed with a pair of scissors and a knife.
Leo cautioned the residents to keep their distance, as he shivered in the cold trench water. Attempts to coax him out were made, but he remained unresponsive.
After approximately four hours, Leo finally emerged from the trench, assuming that the police had left. However, officers who were still at the location quickly subdued him.
Commander of Regional Division 4 C, Assistant Commissioner of Police Khali Pareshram told Kaieteur News that ‘Leo’ is currently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The Assistant Police Commissioner noted that ‘Leo’ has not been arrested nor is he under police guard. He is being treated for the injuries he sustained during the altercation with the residents.
Meanwhile, Manni, the young man who was stabbed by Leo is listed as stable at GPHC.
