CWI Regional U19 Women’s Super50 Cup….  Kaieteur Sports – With the CWI Regional U19 Women’s Super50 Cup just weeks away, the Guyana National U19 team endured a fruitful fitness test on Thursday as part of their encampment. The ladies entered camp this week ahead of the upcoming CWI Regional U19 Women’s Tournament, as preparations heightened on a physical level. Thursday’s Fitness test held at the National Gymnasium, was a successful run for the young women who will be looking to go all the way this season. The team, under the watchful eyes of their coach Clive Grimmond as well as former national player/manager Tremayne Smartt, engaged in the mandatory Yo-Yo, shuttles and other areas of endurance related assessments. The Guyana U19 ladies line up as they prepare for a Beep Test. Following the run, players spent time engaging with their coaches as they gained further knowledge of the sport as well as other aspects of the encampment which helped to further build the mental aspect needed for regional and international cricket. With a stacked team, most of whom featured during last year’s campaign coupled with their current progression and preparations, the young Guyanese ladies could easily return home with the title this year. Upper Mazaruni District Boys and Girls U18 Football Kaieteur Sports – The Jawalla Girls and defending champion Paruima Boys have secured their spots in the Upper Mazaruni Boys and Girls Under-18 Football Championship finals after their semi-final victories on Thursday. Deviana Hunter’s decisive 58th-minute goal propelled the Jawalla Girls into the final. Hunter delivered a stunning strike from outside the 18-yard box, thanks to an assist from Cezanna Reuben, breaking a scoreless deadlock early in the second half of their match against Kamarang. The first half had ended 0-0, with both teams displaying strong defensive play. Hunter’s goal clinched Jawalla’s place in the final, where they will face the host team, Waramadong Girls, for the inaugural title. Part of the Upper Mazaruni U18 Football semi finals action between Kamarang and Jawalla. Later on, defending champions Paruima Boys put on a dominant performance against Waramadong with Kimron Thomas netting a brilliant hat-trick. Paruima established their control early into the contest, with Thomas scoring in the 12th minute and Whitney King adding another goal in the 36th minute, leading to a 2-0 advantage at halftime. Thomas continued his scoring spree in the second half, adding goals in the 56th and 58th minutes, resulting in an impressive 4-0 victory. The reigning champions will now compete against Kamarang Boys in the boys’ divisional final. The championship match is scheduled for Sunday, June 23, where the winners will be crowned. The tournament is sponsored by MVP Sports, Busta Soft Drink, and Turbo Energy Drink and is coordinated by Neil Henrito of DC Caesar Fox Secondary School with support from the Petra Organisation. Patrick Rooplall The round-round robin competition is being run under the auspices of the Ontario Round-Arm Softball Cricket Association (ORSCA). Playing at Robert Lee Public School ground in Brampton, Ontario, the right-handed Rooplall slammed 9 sixes and five fours in the second innings helping Sunshine defeat Masters by 64 runs on Saturday. Scores in the match: Sunshine 86 &130-5; Masters 97 & 56. Notably, the game was played for 12-overs per innings. Masters were set a challenging 120 for victory from the allotment of 12-overs. Rooplall had made a few centuries since the start of his North America show several weeks ago including a pugnacious 192. In the bowling department for Sunshine to help bowl out Masters for 56 in their second innings, was Anil Etwaroo with 3-13 from his maximum two overs. In Masters’ initial innings, the inform Rajkumar Budhram scored a fiery 49 not out. Etwaroo hit a top-score of 41 for Sunshine when they batted first after they were inserted by the opposition as Linden Persaud and Doodnauth Sitaram grabbed two wickets each. Trini Jockey Dillon Khelawan hoping to bring success to Guyana Jun 22, 2024 Sports Jockey Dillon Khelawan is hoping his success in Trinidad will be transferred in Guyana from next month. Kaieteur Sports – Renowned jockey Dillon Khelawan is enjoying a purple patch in Trinidad’s horse racing this season. Khelawan has shown his winning abilities with champion horse Hello World, who won the last three races. The talented jock said he is hoping to bring his ‘A’ game to Guyana when he returns for the July 14 Port Mourant Turf Club race and the August 11 Guyana Cup at Rising Sun. Khelawan is no stranger to Guyana’s horse racing, since he made his debut riding in 2014. He will return and ply his trade for the Jagdeo Racing Stables. In a recent interview, Khelawan noted that horse racing in Trinidad is returning towards glory days after the drastic fall during the Covid-19. “We have a lot more people coming into racing. As it relates to the level of horse racing in Trinidad, everything is going back up, slowly but surely,” the Trinidadian jock echoed. Khelawan will pilot Hello World in a field of eight horses to compete in the President’s Cup today, Saturday June 22 at Santa Rosa Park, Arima. Khelawan will ride the John O’Brien-trained Hello World out of Gate 6 in the Grade III event. Hello World has won its last three races and will take on the likes of Pawan Putra, In the Headlines, Princes Aruna, Crown Prince, Stroke of Luck, Super Bird, and Leonardo Angel in the race. With his recent form and exposure to competitive racing in Trinidad, Khelawan will be one of the jocks to beat in the upcoming races in Guyana. RHTYSC NAMILCO Thunderbolt flower team honours hundreds of fathers Jun 22, 2024 Sports RHTYSC executive Keith Hicks presents prize to Linden Ross. – Ross and Ready cops Walt Nero father of the year award Kaieteur Sports – The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports NAMILCO Thunderbolt flower Under21 and first division teams on Sunday last honoured Linden Ross and Permaul Reddy as the Walter Nero father of the year. The team under the captaincy of former national player Clinton Pestano under took the programme as part of their personal development programme. The two fathers were selected by players on their devotion to the welfare of their children, role model status and discipline. Linden Ross was the first elected vice president of the RHTYSC and played a major role in the early development of the club when it was founded in 1990 by the three times Guyana and Commonwealth youth service awardee the St Francis Xavier Roman Catholic youth club. Ross was also heavily involved in the promotion of steel pan music and the game of dominoes. Reddy is the grandfather of National under13 player Leon Reddy, the Captain of the Rose Hall Town Poonai Pharmacy under13 team. He is seen regularly at daily practice and all matches, supporting the different youth players including his grandson. Veteran RHTYSC executive Keith Hicks, who is currently in charge of the club in the absence of club secretary Hilbert Foster, Assistant Secretary Jonathan Rampersaud and cricket manager Robby Kissoonlall, congratulated the pair on their selection as Father of the Year and urged them to continue being positive role model to youths. He also urged them to share their fatherhood experiences with the younger generation. Hicks, a former police detective, encouraged the fathers of the year to speak out against drug abuse criminal activities and the use of violence. Each of the awardees received a framed certificate of excellence, medal of excellence, trophy, a special Father’s Day gift and a large food hamper. Anthony Nero presents Permaul Reddy with his award. Meanwhile, hundreds of fathers across Berbice received a food hamper from the teams under the Walter Nero programme. The hampers consisted of twenty different food items and beverages. The teams also provided food hampers to patients and staff of the therapy unit of the Port Mourant Public Hospital along with fathers of the No 64 Village Anglican Church and the St Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church of Port Mourant. Fathers at St Francis also received a father’s day gift and were served with a special breakfast. Several cricket clubs in Berbice also received food hampers for their membership. The Rose Hall Town NAMILCO Thunderbolt flower First Division team has dominated first division cricket in the Ancient County, while the Under21 team are the defending champions in Berbice. Among the current players in the team are Kevin Sinclair, Kevlon Anderson, Junior Sinclair, Keith Simpson, Jonathan Rampersaud, Jeremy Sandia, Sylus Tyndall, Clinton Pestano, Jason Sinclair, Romesh Bharrat, Matthew Pottaya, Shemaine Campbell and Shabiki Gajnabi among others. Speak softly, deliver a big lash Jun 22, 2024 Features / Columnists, The GHK Lall Column Hard Truths by GHK Lall Kaieteur News – Lean on President Ali to deliver on his promise about transparency and the floodgates of his impatience crash.  Critics and contrarians are railed against; but he is all for constructive criticisms.  The Americans just responded to his appeal.  Excellency Ali has a choice.  He continues with his imperious braggadocio.  Or he gets a new hymnbook.  The musicians in the Office of the President had better come with some new songs, new notes for the president to deliver. GHK Lall Yes, I heard President Ali’s PPP Government loud and clear: this is serious stuff and there is serious commitment.  Frankly, Mr. President, that charade is thin and worn.  Holes are apparent.  Who will investigate?  The GPF?  SOCU?  It is like being trusted to investigate themselves.  The corruption rivers run too long and too deep in this country, Dr. President.  It is because a big part of the accountability so lavishly sworn to at the National Cultural Center almost four years ago, Excellency, has never gotten off the ground.  Smoke and shams and shadows and the sordid, Mr. Head of State, is what has run wild in the last four years. The Americans (Treasury’s OFAC) have spoken; the volume is earsplitting.  Who are the dissidents now, I ask starting with the esteemed president?  Who is straight speaking and who is insidious now, I ask of all Guyanese? This much has been said to the face of President Ali, Vice President Jagdeo, and Attorney General Nandlall (and the whole world): when business is straight, then anyone and everyone can talk straight.  I can and I do.  None of this fudging about and slipping around that has become the norm is necessary.  The resources of the people do not have to be wasted on witch hunts for dirt to silence the outspoken, who can do so because their own business is straight.  The agents of either the party (PPP) or the PPP Government should be redirected at those who are the real lawbreakers in Guyana.  I challenge my fellow citizens: check first who speaks freely and frankly in this country, and the efforts that have been made to suppress.  Then, check who are the ones that are always playing games with words, or lashing out at law-abiding Guyanese, or hiding behind various barricades.  It is the duty of every citizen of this country to decide for themselves if any of those three caps fit the heads of those that I mentioned, and if so, then why it is so.  Matters have a way of coming full circle.  I move along. OFAC named three Guyanese.  I have met, spoken to, and know only the oldest.  We have had strong and sharp conversations at official locations on official business.  The allegations are devastating, the developments terribly disappointing.  It is the best that I can offer.  I watch the horizon to absorb what develops going forward.  Generally speaking, I can confidently say that the building blocks were piling up: the high-ranking female public servant stopped; her phone seized; her records unscrambled; her relationships revealed.  The appearance of the interdiction alone would have prompted an honest government to cut its losses there and then by sending her packing.  It is what leaders with the best of principles, the highest self-regard, would deliver and damn the interfering, infernal Yankees.  Damn their torpedoes, for there is nothing for them to strike.  People who do their business (and the people’s business) cleanly, live cleanly, could give a damn about pressure and sanctions.  Because there is nothing that anyone from anywhere could pin on them. Honourable leaders do not have those kinds of friends, do not cultivate relationships of those qualities, do not ask for, or take their kindnesses.  Men and women of principle are wise enough (those who are untarnished) not to toy with fire.  Now the fire of the Americans is aimed not just at an alleged network, but all those dodgers and drifters and deniers in a highly rotten government, and the people who prop it up with a matchstick here, hold it together with a rubber band over there, and paint it smoothly with spittle and slop.  Blow too hard on their deformed contraptions, and the whole façade crumbles.  The Americans only puffed.  Careful! It could be the precursor to a loud sneeze. Knowing as well as I do how the Americans operate, they would have gathered all their marbles. The first question is how many of those will be handed to the PPP Government.  What size and how brightly colored is the second.  As a reminder, Americans do their homework, cover all the bases, and know the escape routes.  They are watching to ascertain how much traction there will be from what they have parachuted into the highest offices in Guyana.  I think that the time for blinking and playing the fool by the PPP Government and its leaders is over; has been so for a long time now.  If anyone anywhere is impressed by that hand-over-heart oath from the government with its excrement about “respect for the rule of law and order” then a strong shot of hard liquor or morphine is recommended.  It is laughable, indeed, when this country, this PPP Government, this leadership cabal (with few exceptions) have a history of being rather scurrilous (re political ways), rather careless with personal ethics, and rather odious in verbal conduct. In Murder in the Cathedral, it was T.S. Elliot who wrote: the greatest treason is doing the right thing for the wrong reasons.  I totally disagree.  It is doing the wrong thing over and over and then deceiving the people who trust, even revere.
