2024 CAC Gold Medalist Campbell turning attention to competing on European, Middle Eastern stages  Oct 22, 2024 Sports 2024 CAC Gold Medalist and Pro Card winner, Guyanese Emmerson Campbell says sky’s the limit as he eyes competition internationally. – Lauds fellow Bodybuilders for making this year’s edition among best yet  Kaieteur Sports – 2024 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Bodybuilding Championships Gold Medalist and Pro Card winner, Guyanese Emmerson Campbell said his journey only now begins as he’s aiming to compete on the European and Middle Eastern circuit, following a historic win at home this past weekend. With his triumphant moment coming this past Sunday, the Guyanese multiple-time national champion is now a two-time CAC Gold medalist. Campbell earned the coveted Men’s Physique Pro Card after showcasing his amazing Physique in the presence of hundreds who turned out at the National Cultural Centre for the 51st edition of the CAC, hosted proudly by Guyana. This win also etched Campbell’s name in the history books, being the first Guyanese athlete to earn a Pro Card in the Men’s Physique class at CAC, thus solidifying his status as a Pro. Speaking with Kaieteur Sports briefly following his accolades, the strongman said now that he’s broken into the ranks of being a full-fledged Professional Bodybuilder, he has sights set firmly on competing on the European and the Middle Eastern circuit. He pointed out that this new drive to compete on the world stage, is a result of his recent success, becoming a Pro in his craft but most importantly, him toiling relentlessly for 8 years at the Regional level. Campbell said competing on stages such as those in Europe as well as across the Middle East, will help to add more experience to his still developing career, while embracing the culture and work ethics of professionals hailing from such stretches of the globe, will further put Guyana on the map as a Bodybuilding stronghold. He congratulated his countrymen/women for ensuring Guyana flew the Golden ArrowHead high as they finished 1st with 333 points, thus closing the gap on Barbados (327 points) who were forced to settle for 2nd place. In closing, Campbell expressed his respect to each participant from across every country, who made this year’s CAC one of the best yet. Campbell also said this win adds additional fuel to the tank, as he plans to heighten and increase his training regimes and workout sessions with major goals set for 2025 and beyond. (C. Oct 22, 2024 Sports Superintendent of Police Chandradat Kooldeep handing over the 3rd place cash prize to Mr. Micquel Perez, Culture, youth and Sports Officer Matarkai in the Presence of Mr. Sherlon Rodrigues and Ms. Rose Benn. Kaieteur Sports – Chandradat Kooldeep, Assistant Superintendent of Police, has rendered assistance to the upcoming Inter School U13 Tapeball Cricket tournament slated for Region one. Kooldeep has sponsored the 3rd place cash prize of $100,000, trophies, balls and insulation tapes for the competition. The competition is being organised Sebai Primary School PTA and will commence from November 1st. According to the organisers, It’s mandatory for schools who have migrants on roll to include two such players on the team and each Sub region will commence its leg of the tournament at the following venues: Kamwatta Recreational Ground, Moruca, Settlement Ground Mabaruma and Fitzburg Recreational ground, Matarkai. The Top Three Sub regional teams will meet at Fitzburg Recreational ground on November 15th to compete for the championship trophy and cash prizes of $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively. President of the Essequibo Cricket Board and Vice President of the Guyana Cricket Board, Deleep Singh said he is extremely pleased to see the enthusiasm and excitement generated in the school in Region #1 to play Tapeball Cricket which is considered an introduction into playing hard ball Cricket. He wished all schools participating the very best and thanked the organizers for their tremendous efforts to ensure cricket is being played in Region one. Oct 22, 2024 Sports Members of both teams and sponsors following the presentation ceremony. Kaieteur Sports – Led by a three-wicket haul from Jovin Ducan, Select XI defeated Anek Hemnarine XI by 13 runs when the teams collided in a 12-over U19 fixture on Sunday at Farm Cricket Ground, East Bank Demerara. The Select XI batted first and found the going though, losing wickets at regular intervals. They were eventually bowled out for 80 in the final over of their innings.  Jevol Seeram made 12 as skipper Anek Hemnarine claimed 3-20 and medium pacer Prosper Jacobus 2-9. Anek XI showed some fight, but could only muster 67-9. Keshawn Narayan made 18, while Arshad (only name provided) scored 15 and Ronaldo Grenville 11. Offspinner Ducan picked up 3-15 and was named man-of-the-match.  Hemnarine took the best bowler award and Narayan received the best batter prize. Young Jovan Seeram, a member of Anek XI was given a speical prize for his participation in the game. The Captains of both teams were presented with a trophy, while each participating member was given a medal. The game was sponsored by Ravi and Keshav Narayan and played in celebration of Anek Hamnarine birth anniversary. GGA, THTI inks Mutual Sports Tourism MOU Oct 22, 2024 Sports GGA executives are committed to strengthen their ties with fellow Golfers from Trinidad and Tobago as well as other Caribbean territories. – Guyana/Trinidad golfers to forge stronger relationships heading into 2025 Kaieteur Sports – The Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute (THTI) and the Guyana Golf Association (GGA) has signed a mutual sports tourism MOU that will see players and supporters of the sport from the two countries traveling to play in various tournaments in each country. GGA president Aleem Hussain with alongside one of the young Trinidadian Junior Golf pros at Magdelena Grand Beach Golf Course. Ms. Chantalle Melville, speaking on behalf of the THTI CEO Kirton Sorias said, “We are excited to join with the GGA to promote golf and hospitality between our countries and look forward to this being the first of many such promotions.” This initiative comes as Guyana continues to make tremendous strides in the development and promotion of the sport locally and internationally. Guyanese players have done well on tournaments held in Trinidad, Tobago, Barbados and Suriname in 2024 and with the exceptional growth of our junior programme, the number of players and top results will grow exponentially in the coming years. According to the agreement, players from Guyana will be in Tobago at the TTHI annual tournament April 12-13 in Tobago at the Magdelena Grand Beach Golf Course. Similarly, the GGA will host players from Tobago later in the year as a part of the Tourism and Hospitality exchange programme. “With the Westside Golf Course functioning as a gateway to developing golfers on Guyana, we expect that Guyana will start hosting more of these events that will place Guyana on the Sports Tourism map for the region,” said Monnaf Arjune, Vice President of the GGA. Oct 22, 2024 Sports Delroy Tyrrell was named swimmer of the week The spotlight was firmly on junior Delroy Tyrrell as the Oneonta men’s swimming & diving team opened their season in style at the Hartwick Relays on October, 14, clinching first place out of five competing teams with a total of 600 points. Tyrrell who changed from The College of Saint Rose due to its closure, contributed significantly to the team’s success across multiple events. Kicking things off, the Red Dragons secured a second-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay where Tyrrell teamed up with senior James Llewellyn, junior Calvin Hitzschke and freshman Luke Goodspeed to clock a time of 3:45.54. The momentum surged as Tyrrell helped propel Oneonta to victory in the 300-yard backstroke relay, where the trio of Tyrrell, Llewellyn, and freshman Nicky Byrd touched the wall first with an impressive time of 3:04.39. Tyrrell’s prowess was further displayed in the standout 200-yard freestyle relay. Alongside teammates Martinelli, Hitzschke, and freshman Russell Cheng, Tyrrell anchored the team’s effort to a swift time of 1:30.25, sealing another first-place finish. His versatility was evident as he continued to play a pivotal role throughout the meet. Despite a few ups and downs, including a solid third-place finish in the 300-yard breaststroke relay with the squad of David Scott, sophomore Matt Cleveland, and freshman Bastian Dudley swimming a time of 3:49.64, Tyrrell’s remarkable contributions stood out significantly. Additionally, the senior duo of Joseph Campise and Maddox Aramini, along with Hitzschke, clinched victory in the 300-yard butterfly relay at 2:51.37, further showcasing Oneonta’s depth. The excitement didn’t stop there. Oneonta maintained their competitive edge, achieving a commendable third-place finish in the 850-yard crescendo relay, while Tyrrell’s teammates shone in other events, positioning the team as a formidable force in the competition. Oneonta also registered second-place finishes in the 600-yard IM relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay, and concluded the swimming segment with a third-place time in the 800-yard medley relay. Overall, Delroy Tyrrell emerged not only as a central figure in the Red Dragons’ triumph but also as a promising athlete for the season ahead. With his outstanding performances, Tyrrell has set a high standard as Oneonta looks to build momentum throughout the year. Delroy Tyrrell Shines as Oneonta defeat Oswego in Dual Meet In a thrilling display of talent and teamwork, senior Delroy Tyrrell emerged as a standout performer for the Oneonta men’s swimming and diving team, leading the Red Dragons to a commanding 126-104 victory over Oswego on Saturday afternoon. Tyrrell kicked off the meet in grand style, contributing to the Red Dragons’ success as they took first place in the 200-yard medley relay alongside juniors Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School) and sophomores Ethan Cairo (Bethpage, NY/Freeport) and Cosmo Martinelli (Albany, NY/Albany). Their exceptional time of 1:40.07 was a full four seconds ahead of the Lakers’ relay team. Demonstrating his prowess, Tyrrell was especially dominant in the 100-yard backstroke event, where he recorded a stellar time of 54.83 to secure the top position, leading a Oneonta sweep of the event. Tyrrell’s swift strokes propelled him to victory ahead of senior Joseph Campise (Queens, NY/St. Francis Prep) and junior Nicky Byrd (Purchase, NY/Harrison), who finished second and third, respectively. Beyond his individual triumphs, Tyrrell was also instrumental in the 200-yard freestyle relay, teaming up with Hitzschke, James Llewellyn (Great River, NY/East Islip), and Martinelli. Their combined effort resulted in a triumphant finish, clocking in at 1:30.38 and capping off a successful day for the Red Dragons. The victory was bolstered by other stellar performances as well. Sophomore Andrew Capella (Glenville, NY/Burnt-Hills-Ballston Lake) secured the win in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:05.69, while Llewellyn claimed victory in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:52.17. Martinelli showcased his talent by clinching first in the 50-yard freestyle with a rapid time of 23.03. The diving team also shone in the competition, with freshman Benjamin Heyman taking home wins in both the one-meter and three-meter dives, scoring 151.70 and 133.40 points respectively. Oneonta’s next challenge awaits at RPI on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m., where Tyrrell and his teammates will aim to build on their momentum from this impressive meet against Oswego. Kaieteur Sports – The first leg in the Annual National Draughts Championship, which was contested last Sunday at the Transport Sports Club, saw a new ‘B’ division champion. Navin Meighbarran with two straight wins over Anderson sealed Anderson’s chances to defend his title. Meighbarran ended with 18 points to his closest rival, Anderson, on 15 points. Ramsagar Singh from Diamond took the third position with 11 points and Dr. Ivor English was fourth with 7 points. Both Meighbarran and English are players from Transport Sports Club. Trophies were presented to the four players, compliments of Puran Bros. Waste Management, M&M Snackette, Bel Air Rubis, Ahmad Hydraulic Bagotstown and Elias Gentle Attorney at Law.
