CH&PA warns against illegal sale of land at Mocha/Arcadia Oct 20, 2024 News Kaieteur News – The Ministry of Housing and Water (MoHW) –The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) on Saturday said that it has been made aware of reports that plots of land within the informal settlement at Mocha/Arcadia, East Bank Demerara (EBD) are being sold/allocated by operatives of the Mocha / Arcadia Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) and opposition elements. In a statement to the media, the CH&PA made it clear that the sale of the plots of land at Mocha/Arcadia is illegal. “We wish to make it unequivocally clear that such actions are illegal. MoHW/CH&PA will not recognize any sale or transfer of these lands by unauthorized individuals or entities. We hereby issue a formal warning to those engaged in the illegal sale of these lands to immediately cease such activities. Likewise, persons attempting to purchase these lands are cautioned that any such transactions will be deemed null and void. MoHW/CH&PA has been actively working to regularize the informal settlement in Mocha/Arcadia,” the statement said. The CH&PA said that in November 2022 it conducted a comprehensive inventory, identifying over 300 occupied and unoccupied structures. “In 2023, residents also met with the Minister of Housing and Water, Hon. Collin Croal and Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Hon. Sonia Parag, who was Minister of Public Service at the time. The land in question is under the jurisdiction of the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL), and CH&PA has been engaging with NICIL to facilitate the transfer of this land. In fact, the block plan for three parcels of land is being prepared and is in the transfer process. This is a critical step in the regularization process, which will enable residents to obtain legal ownership of the land,” the agency which falls under the Ministry of Housing and Water (MoHW). Further, the Authority warned that “any sale of this land by local government bodies, individuals, or entities other than the MoHW /CH&PA or NICIL is illegal and will not be recognized.” “We urge the public to remain vigilant and to report any illegal activities related to the sale of these lands. Recognizing the challenges faced by visually impaired individuals, he decided to make a meaningful contribution that reflects his commitment to enhancing their quality of life. C.S World Cargo 2000 Inc owner, Chandie Singh handing over a laptop to Odessa Blaire an orientation mobility officer, along with the President of the GSB In a heartfelt initiative aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for visually impaired individuals, Singh on Tuesday donated five laptops to the GSB. This is in addition to his donation of 30 laptop computers which he made last year. The donation ceremony held at the company’s headquarters Cummings Street, Georgetown, was a showcase of his commitment to empowering those with visual impairment through technology. As the world becomes increasingly digital access to technology is crucial for personal and professional development. The laptops will provide GSB members with essential tools to engage with educational resources, improve their skills, and foster independence. This thoughtful contribution aims to bridge the gap between the visually impaired community and the digital landscape, enabling members to participate more fully in today’s technology-driven society. The GSB, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the development and empowerment of blind individuals in Guyana, plays a vital role in fostering a supportive community. He  had enquired, “How can a blind person use a computer? I said how many computers you guys needed?”  As a result, the businessman donated 30 laptops. Singh related, “I set up this office here in Guyana to be able to support social events and the poor…” He continued, “…like the blind institute we want to be able to support them.” To this end, the owner then explained that a portion of the company’s profits is being allocated to support charitable initiatives. Playing like the champs they entered the tournament as, Demerara cruised to another senior Inter-county title, spurred by fifties from Matthew Nandu (57) and skipper Tevin Imlach (56*), effectively taking the champs to 167-3 in 33.4 overs. The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMRSC) Vice President Shairaz Roshandin confirmed that all systems are in place for the event today, with the final preparation work being done on several sections of the track early yesterday morning. “We had to apply some special quick drying cement to some spots on the track early this [yesterday] morning for some small corrective measures. It is nothing that competitors or fans should be worried about because it dries in a few hours so it’s definitely set for tomorrow [today]. “We also have a few surprises for those fans in Essequibo. We expect to feature at least one of the newest high powered cars in the sport there.
