Four suspects wanted in relation to Main Street abduction of man surrender Oct 05, 2024 News Kaieteur News – Four men, who were wanted by police for questioning in relation to the abduction of Joshua David called ‘Bricks’ turned themselves into police on Friday morning, a senior police officer informed Kaieteur News. Joshua David, also known as ‘Bricks’ The men were identified as 34-year-old Wayne Barker called ‘onnie’ of lot G Norton Street Lodge, 26-year-old Aaron Alleyne called ‘Cats’ of Lot 9 West La Penitence, 21-year-old Davantai Mars called ‘Sharkie’ of Lot 148 Middle Road, La Penitence and 32-year-old Damion Barlow called ‘Dangles’ of Lot 47 Norton Street, Wortmanville. The two other men who were wanted, Osafo Peters and Alpha Poole, turned themselves into police on September 30, 2024. The six suspects are accused of abducting David while he was purchasing food at the New Thriving Restaurant on Main Street, Georgetown on September 27, 2024. Ever since his abduction, police have been searching for the abducted man. On Tuesday, they combed the Annandale Backlands, East Coast Demerara (ECD) with the assistance of drones but were unsuccessful. Despite the outcome, police have maintained that they will continue to follow all leads as they do their best to find David. On Monday, a video surfaced on social media showing David being abducted. He was surrounded by five persons, while in a scuffle. It was observed that during the scuffle, one of the men kicked David in a bid to have him cooperate. Thereafter, he was seen being pushed. It is unclear where he was taken. Meanwhile, Kaieteur News understands that the wanted men are connected to the recent drive-by shooting that killed 39-year-old Lawrence Wayne, known as ‘Boy Boy,’ and 40-year-old Anthony Havercome on D’Urban Street, Georgetown, on August 24, 2024. Fake pension books in circulation Oct 05, 2024 News …Human Services Minister warns against use Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud delivers remarks at the Canefield Health Centre, Region Six, on Tuesday Kaieteur News – DPI – Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, has issued a stern warning regarding the use of fake and unauthorised pension books. Pension Payment The issue is currently under investigation by the Guyana Police Force (GPF). During a recent outreach in Region Six, Minister Persaud outlined the severity of the matter and warned that anyone caught committing fraud will be held accountable. “These books are not authorised by the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security and as such, it is being investigated by the Guyana Police Force. It is a serious thing and anybody found complicit in respect of who they are, will be held accountable by law. They will face the full force of the law,” Minister Persaud warned. The unauthorised booklets, which have appeared in various payment facilities, lack the security features and colours of the official document. The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security has provided all relevant evidence of the fake books to the police. It has warned that anyone trying to pass them off as real will have legal action taken against them. The ministry also called on its staff, the Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC), and other payment venues to increase vigilance and ensure the integrity of the payment process. To prevent abuse, persons are reminded that official pension booklets are only distributed through designated offices countrywide. Minister Persaud urged senior citizens to utilise the various payment methods made available by the ministry via banks and Mobile Money Guyana (MMG). Will Mr. Hughes, Mr. Norton, and company please stand Oct 05, 2024 Features / Columnists, News, The GHK Lall Column Hard Truths by GHK Lall Kaieteur News – If there is one thing that could be said for PPP practitioners of the political arts, it is that there is always an opportunity that could be leveraged to the party’s, government’s, and leaders’ advantage.  If a dog is hit down while crossing the road, Drs. Ali and Jagdeo find an opening to speak about speeding.  If it is cost-of-living that riles up considerable numbers of Guyanese, they trot out statistics and subsidies.  Then, there are meet-and-greet moments, those press-the flesh flashbulb specials.  And who is always there, sun, snow, sleet, or storm, if not President Ali and the ubiquitous Vice President Jagdeo grinning from ear to ear.  Embracing and whispering sweet nothings in the ear of Guyanese of all complexions.  These guys should be missionaries, except for one thing.  There is no spiritual ministry that would accept either of the two of them.  Sorry.  But sometimes maters must be called as they are. The standard that applies to the here, there, and everywhere Ali and Jagdeo also have relevance to Messrs. Hughes, Norton, and their extended company of comrades.  Where are they?  Has anybody seen them in the places that matter?  Will Mr. Hughes, Mr. Norton et al please stand up?  There is a storm in Linden, and who is there first, but a reliable foot soldier of Ali and Jagdeo.  In the caravan race to storm-struck Linden, stronghold of the PNC no less, the first boots on the ground are those of the PPP.  There is speculation that if there was association with social media, how much more would have been seen, what else the cascade of writings would cover.  Perhaps, one of these days.  It is either that or a forming a political party.  In Guyanese, goat bite a lot of citizens, but a wide berth was given to this point on the compass.  Pardon the digression, but it makes sense to put that in play, if only to keep people on their toes. The question is not going away: how could the political opposition be so preoccupied, so slow on the draw, that people who lost track of God, country, and all that Guyana means, beat it to the punch?  Talking about God offers a timely segue.  Ali and/or Jagdeo can be depended upon to be in the mandirs, mosques, and other manmade monuments to honour God.  Good Friday, Good Shepherd Sunday, and that special season of peace and goodwill to all find them with pious presences and solemn faces in the middle of one assembly or another.  It is an extension of the cohesion (not separation) of State and Church that is part of the rackets in Office of the President and Office of the well, er, there is none other.  The VP is not a man listing heavily in the direction of the spirit world, unless it is of the type that operates in darkness, while the Office of the Prime Minister seems more inclined to political sorcery than spiritual substance.  As a quick aside, please pardon the omission of titles for Drs. Ali and Jagdeo.  Be assured that no disrespect is intended.  Should that ever happen, everybody will know, with the two of them being among the first. So where are Nigel Hughes, Aubrey Norton and their talented tenth when people gather to pray, chant, sing?  Jump and wave, and sing and shout, among the brethren could lead to all being well with many souls.  Surely, they must have an archbishop in their crowd.  If not, a regular parson will do.  The point is that the opposition dukes and duchesses must learn to get away from the podium and microphones and cameras and learn to mix with the common people.  Why, even a man as, ah, far gone as Don Trump has cultivated a serious following in the US circle of believers.  Phagwah, Eid (either one), and other such dates on the local calendar must be studied on how they can be worked to maximum advantage.  Jesus did go in the temple and run out some people who were a bit untoward.  The concern is if the names being called and urged into public spaces would be the ones run out of houses of worship.  That is, those who are seen as desecrator and who feels desecrated.  Come to think of it, even Attila the Hun and one of those great Roman generals named Scipio did intrude rather boldly into the sanctum sanctorum.  The conclusion is that whether war or politics, this is neither playtime nor Play Doh nor the season for political playboys.  Both the PNC and AFC should learn, if they are going to represent a respected presence in 2025, and with respectful voter response resulting. In the field of play, there was Field Marshal and Commander in Chief, Mohamed Irfaan Ali helicoptering into Leonora for a football match.  Who plays football in Guyana?  If any PPP ‘banna’ sees a race card in that thought, there is always the Ethnic Relations Commission.  Bharat Jagdeo would mount the rescue operation, like he did for the minister in the Ivor Thom affair.  Regardless of who plays football, there was Excellency Ali arriving in Helicopter One.  Everything and everywhere are seen as selling opportunities by the PPP brass.  They may be crass and kick grass, but they know how to sell themselves via selfies and sidling up to impressed Guyanese.  Mr. Hughes and Mr. Norton had better take note.  They all insist on some magic about going it alone.  They might as well kiss next year goodbye and jump overboard. In-form power-hitter David Miller (36) and Alick Athanaze (26) tried to carry the Royals to a significant score which resulted in them only mustering 148 all out after 20 overs. The Warriors then made light work of total, romping to 149-2, with 33 balls left after blistering knocks from half-centurion Hope and Afghan Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who set the tone with 40 off 18; smashing four sixes and two fours. Hope, who led with a 33-ball 56 featuring six fours and a pair of sixes, his 10th CPL half-century and Mooen Ali, who struck an unbeaten 44 (3×4 2×6) kept the pressure mounting with their partnership of 93; respective knocks which headlined the Warriors chase. Kaieteur Sports – The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, MS, clinched their 125th cricket title on Sunday last since 1992 after defeating Guymine by ten wickets to lift the 11th edition of the RHTYSC/Naeem Nasir Memorial Tournament. The four team tournament was played in blazing sunshine at the Area H ground and was witnessed by a very large and colourful crowd. The four teams that participated were Rose Hall Town Bakewell, Guymine, Rose Hall Tigers and Courtland. Jonathan Rampersaud receives his man of the finals award from Robby Kissoonlall. RHT Bakewell captain Ryan Kissoonlall receives the winning trophy from Bakewell general manager Rajin Ganga. The drawing for the one day tournament was done by the four captains prior to the first match and resulted in RHT Bakewell clashing with Courtland. Rose Hall Tigers were drawn to play Guymine in the second match. Rose Hall Town batted first against Courtland after losing the toss and amassed 107 for 4 off their allotted 10 overs. Javed Karim, playing his first match for his new club, scored a brisk 47 NO and received support from Jonathan Rampersaud 21 and Matthew Pottaya 13. Johnson was the best bowler for Courtland with 2 for 20, while Troy Mathieson 1 for 9 and Travis Williams 1 for 13 offered support with the ball. Courtland in reply reached 88 for 7 to lose by 19 runs. Johnson returned with the bat to score an attacking 44 with three boundaries and three sixes. Ramsay took 4 for 18 and Jeremy Sandia 2 for 6. In the second game, Guymine batting first reached a healthy 103 for 3 verses RHT Tigers. Campton Hope and Mickle then batted well until the 11th over when Hope fell for 22 (2×6, 1×4) and then Mickle for 41 (1×6, 3×4) as Guymine ended on 97 for 6 from their allotted 12 overs. Former national under19 player Jeremy Sandia took 3 for 18 from 3 overs while Ramsay had 2 for 13. Needing to score 98 runs from 12 overs to clinch the title, RHT Bakewell raced to 100 without loss as former national junior player Jonathan Rampersaud struck eight delighted boundaries and three massive sixes in a match winning 70 NO. Rampersaud faced 29 balls as victory was achieved in the 8th over, Skipper Ryan Kissoonlall supported with a solid unbeaten 24 with two sixes. Rampersaud won the man of the final and best batsman award, while Jeremy Sandia received the best bowler award. The champions received $100,000 and the Championship trophy, while the runner up collected $50,000 and the runner up trophy. The two other participating teams also received a financial reward. RHTYSC Secretary, Hilbert Foster, at the presentation ceremony stated that the memory of Naeem Nasir was very dear to the club as he had played a major role in the development of the club over a twelve years period prior to his death in 2012. Nasir, the founder of Bakewell was the sponsor of the RHTYSC since 2000. Bakewell General Manager, Rajendra Ganga, praised the RHTYSC and especially Foster for keeping the memories of Nasir alive over the years. He congratulated the RTH Bakewell for winning the tournament and urged them to continuing to represent his company’s brand with pride. Six lucky spectators received special gifts as gate prizes.
