At least ten Palestinians killed in Gaza strike, Israel says targeted Hamas commander Sep 15, 2024 News JERUSALEM, Sept 14 (Reuters) – At least 10 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza on Saturday, Palestinian media reported, and the Israeli military said it targeted a Hamas commander. The strike hit a residential housing unit in the Al Tuffah neighborhood east of Gaza City, according to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa. The Israeli military said it “struck the commander of a Hamas terrorist cell … who was involved in the planning and execution of terrorist activities.” It said it was aware of reports that several civilians were killed in the strike. Mechanic gunned down in West Ruimveldt Sep 15, 2024 News Kaieteur News – Twenty-three-year-old Troy Rodrigues, known as “Kelly” of Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown was gunned down on Friday evening. Dead: Troy Rodrigues known as “Kelly” According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the incident unfolded around 19:15 hours at Vlissengen Square, between West Ruimveldt Front Road and Mandela Avenue, Georgetown. The police reported that a 25-year-old construction worker of West Ruimveldt stated that he was in his backyard when he heard two loud explosions, which were believed to be gunshots. Upon looking over his fence, the construction worker noticed a man lying motionless on the road. When he arrived at the scene, he said a small crowd had already gathered, around Rodrigues who was unresponsive and lying in a pool of blood. Rodrigues was wearing a green jersey, blue shorts, black slippers, and a black surgical mask at the time of the fatal shooting. His body was examined and a small circular wound on Rodrigues’ forehead was discovered. The body was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) mortuary, for a post-mortem examination. Notably, no spent shell casings were recovered from the scene. 62-year-old pedestrian killed by speeding minibus Sep 15, 2024 News Kaieteur News – Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian, 62-year-old Adree Slowe, a resident of Lot 8 Vigilance South, East Coast Demerara (E.C.D). Dead: Adree SloweDead: Adree Slowe It was reported that the accident occurred around 23:00 hours on Friday, September 13, 2024, near Church of God Road, Buxton, ECD. The police reported that Slowe was struck by minibus bearing registration number: BAC 4129. The driver and owner are yet to be identified. Preliminary investigations reveal that Slowe was crossing the road from the southern to the northern side when the speeding minibus, traveling east, collided with him. Slowe was reportedly dragged about 100 feet from the point of impact. While the driver fled the scene, Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) were called to the site, where they pronounced Slowe dead. His body was taken to Memorial Gardens Mortuary by Memorial Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. Investigations are continuing as police search for the driver involved. Kaieteur News – An early morning accident on the Cottage Public Road, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, has claimed the life of a 28-year-old man and left three others injured. Dead: Collin Dowden The dead man has been identified by the police as Collin Dowden, a resident of Belle Vue, West Coast Berbice (WCB). Those injured are the driver of the motorcar, 23-year-old Shakeem Booker of Seafield, WCB. The other two passengers: 36-year-old Ron Robertson of No. 42 Village, WCB and 17-year-old Tyreece McDonald of Seafield. According to the police, the fatal crash occurred around 03:00 hours on Saturday. Booker was the driver of motorcar PJJ 2006 with Dowden, Robertson and McDonald as passengers. Initial report by the police states that Booker was driving east along Cottage Public Road at a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle. The car reportedly veered onto the southern grass parapet, slamming into a concrete and mesh fence before crashing into a utility pole. Booker, along with his three passengers sustained injuries in the collision. They were rushed to the Mahaicony Public Hospital, where doctors pronounced Dowden dead on arrival. The driver and the two other passengers were treated for their injuries and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further medical attention. Dowden’s body has been taken to Bailey’s Funeral Home, for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue. Related Similar Articles

Griffith’s brother-in-law Steven McKenzie told this publication that the missing man accompanied his wife to the hospital for a follow-up visit following a surgery. “He was at the Georgetown Hospital with his wife because his wife take a surgery and she had to go for a follow-up. So when she went into the doctor’s office, (she went for about 14 minutes) he walked away by the time she came out… he wasn’t there,” McKenzie said. After realizing that her husband was nowhere to be found, the worried woman contacted relatives and a search party was formed. A report was made to the Albertown Police Station subsequently and an investigation launched. McKenzie said that Griffith was allegedly sighted by persons who made contact with the family. However, when family members visited the location, Griffith was nowhere to be seen. “I feel very concerned like how everybody will feel when they are not finding their relative,” McKenzie told Kaieteur News. $350M contract awarded to build Matthews Ridge Secondary School Sep 15, 2024 News Kaieteur News – The residents of Matthews Ridge in Region One can soon expect a new secondary school building in the community, as the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) has awarded a $350 million contract to build the facility. The contract was awarded this month to Prored Resources. The firm was among six contractors that bid for the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development project. According to information released by NPTAB, the Amerindian community of Baramita in Region One will soon get a new primary school which will be built by Ceraturium for $27,912,250. A new nursery school will also be built in the village by AAA Contracting Services Solution for $21,561,580. Kaieteur News understands that the secondary school for Mathhews Ridge is among several the government is constructing in the hinterland this year. In Region One, five new secondary schools will be constructed in various communities including North-West, Kwebanna, Matthews Ridge, Waramuri and Hosororo. Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand at a previous press conference had said that her government would continue to build schools, so as to give children an opportunity to not only finish school, but to capitalize on tertiary education. This year, the Education Ministry was allocated some $74.4Billion, a portion of which will be used for the construction, rehabilitation, extension and maintenance of educational facilities. This newspaper reported that the Ministry of Education has embarked on an aggressive programme to ensure that the nation’s children have access to secondary education. The Government has set 2025 to achieve universal secondary education. To achieve this, the ministry has since moved to have several secondary schools constructed across the country.
