New Canadian company targets untapped gold potential in Region Seven Sep 10, 2024 News Kaieteur News – Newly-formed Canadian mining company, Greenheart Gold Corporation is pushing forward with exploration activities at the early-stage Abuya Project, located in northwest Guyana near the Cuyuni River, Region Seven. In a statement on Monday, the company provided an update on exploration efforts at its two original gold properties, Majorodam in Suriname and Abuya in Guyana. Greenheart Gold said it is an exploration company aiming to build on a successful track record of discovery and mine development in the Guiana Shield. It was stated that the company was formed as a spin-off from the merger between Canadian firms-G Mining Ventures Corporation (GMIN) and Reunion Gold Corporation. Earlier this year, Reunion announced that GMIN will be taking over its Guyana’s Oko West project located in Region Seven, as a result of an all-share deal valued at C$875 million (US$638 million). According to Greenheart Gold, the Abuya project sits just 15 kilometers west of Zijin’s Aurora Gold Mine (AGM) and covers 90 square kilometers of highly prospective land, held under 20 medium-scale mining permits. “Greenheart Gold has the option to acquire a 100 % stake in the project… Currently, a local prospector is successfully mining alluvial deposits on a small scale. Greenheart Gold collaborates with the prospector by sharing the costs of running the camp and equipment, enabling the company to use its exploration funds efficiently,” the company stated. The Abuya Project exhibits several geological indicators that suggest the potential for Paleoproterozoic gold mineralization, commonly found in the Guiana Shield. Notably, it was stated that despite its promising location, the Abuya area has not been previously explored for primary gold deposits. Historical data is limited, with the most recent record of alluvial mining in the area dating back to 1968. In just three weeks of fieldwork, Greenheart Gold said it completed its first phase of reconnaissance mapping and soil sampling at Abuya, with results pending. The company disclosed that the recent phase one reconnaissance mapping conducted by Greenheart has confirmed geological similarities between Abuya, the Aurora Gold Mine, and the Oko West project. It is said that the area contains volcano-sedimentary rock units that are folded and sheared, along with the intrusion of the Ammamuri granite. These characteristics, combined with the reactive nature of the host rocks, create a favourable environment for gold mineralization. “The company is led by former executives of Reunion Gold, known for their recent discovery and delineation of the Oko West deposit, the largest gold find in the Guiana Shield. Despite being home to several gold deposits and highly promising geological terrain, the Guiana Shield remains underexplored, which is where Greenheart Gold is focusing its efforts,” it was stated. Notably, Greenheart Gold said its goal is to build a robust portfolio of the early-stage exploration projects that target the key geological factors believed to have been crucial to the discovery of Oko West. The company noted too, “Greenheart Gold is primarily focused on gold prospects in Suriname and Guyana, offering a favorable combination of promising geology and supportive governments. The company is actively pursuing discussions to expand its pipeline of exploration projects.” Moreover, the Oko West project is expected to reach gold production by 2027.  That project has an estimated 4.2 million ounces of gold. In February 2024, Reunion had announced an updated Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) containing a total of 4.3 M oz. of gold in Indicated Resources grading 2.05 g/t and 1.6 M oz. of gold in Inferred Resources grading 2.59 g/t. US firm could land US$1.8M contract to set up Guyana’s oil & gas data bank  Sep 10, 2024 News Kaieteur News – The contract to help Guyana establish its own petroleum data repository- a project being executed through the Ministry of Natural Resources is estimated to cost US$1,887,189.09. This is according to information provided by the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office which revealed on its website recently that the only bidder for the contract is Halliburton out of the USA, who bid the US$1.8 million. This publication had reported that the ministry had issued a tender seeking a firm to apply for the ‘Procurement of Data Management Services for Guyana’s Exploration and Production Data’ project. At an opening of bids in July at the NPTAB office, it was revealed that Halliburton and Schlumberger Guyana Inc. were the only two companies that submitted their proposals for the contract. Halliburton would have met the necessary criteria by NPTAB to move forward with the financial opening of the project. It should be noted that a contract is yet to be awarded by the NPTAB for this project. This publication had reported that Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat at a press conference last month, said that this project it is to establish Guyana’s own data repository in country. “Presently we have our data in Houston (USA) being held by other companies, this is like our seismic data and everything that is being held by other companies,” he said. According to the minister, many countries that have been producing for four or five years do not have a data repository in their own country so setting up one in Guyana is “ambitious” and also not for the country’s data to be elsewhere. “After four years (of producing oil) we are already moving to establishing our own data repository in the country, that we can have our own people manage it, analyze it and its money making. It’s a very lucrative investment that we are taking on because not only spending money to set up the data repository, it is about getting our people to work there and to sell that data to companies that will come and seek to do exploration in Guyana, it’s worth a lot of money, so it’s like an investment,” he said at his press conference. Noting that this is an investment for Guyana, the minister added that from the previously held bid round alone “companies had to pay US$2 million just to access the data on those ministry sites of which we get a part of it but if we can have it in country it means that we will make that kind of money when we sell our data, because our data is in demand, everybody wants data from the Guyana basin.” Speaking of the data system last year February in Parliament, the minister related that the country is receiving 50 percent and not 100 percent of the revenue or service charge because of the absence of the data repository in country. He said at the time that this data management system is particularly important even as the country continues to develop its oil and gas sector as there will be more data required not only from the Stabroek Block but all other blocks offshore, onshore, and near-shore. According to information provided in this year’s budget estimates – Volume 3, approximately $700 million has been allocated to set up this data management system and others projects under the Ministry’s ‘Oil and Gas Sector Development Programme’. Notably, it is being funded through a loan by the International Development Association (IDA), which is an international financial institution which offers concessional loans and grants to the world’s poorest developing countries. 3 men wanted for D’Urban Street drive-by murders Sep 10, 2024 News Kaieteur News – The Guyana Police Force (GPF) on Monday issued a wanted bulletin for three persons in relation to the murder of two men during a drive-by shooting at D’Urban Street, Georgetown on August 24, 2024. Omalie Vieira Keron Hinds Dominique Darrel Osborne Among the trio are an 18-year-old and two residents of the United States of America (U.S.A.). Dead are 39-year-old Lawrence Wayne called ‘Boy Boy’ and 40-year-old Anthony Havercome, 40. The wanted men have been identified as 18-year-old Omalie Vieira, whose last known address is at Lot 47 Princess, Lodge Georgetown, 31-year-old Keron Hinds, whose last known addresses are at Lot 4 Smyth Street, Werk-en-Rust Georgetown and 134 E 59th Street, Brooklyn, New York, and 30-year-old Dominique Darrel Osborne, whose last known addresses are Lot 44 Princess Street, Lodge, Georgetown and 196 E 51st Street, Brooklyn, New York. Police are asking persons who have seen or have information about the whereabouts of the trio to make contact with the police on telephone numbers 227-1149, 225-8196, 227-1611, 226-3405, 225-6978, 225-8196 or the nearest police station. Kaieteur News reported that the shooting took place at around 05:45h on August 24. Havercome died after being riddled by bullets, while Wayne succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). Anthony Hovescome 25-year old Travis Ceres, a vendor from East La Penitence, 38-year-old Teon Allen of Sophia, 31-year-old Stanley Matthews, a labourer of Sophia, 33-year-old Destra Authur, another vendor and a resident of East La Penitence and Lloyd Roberts a miner of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) were all hospitalized with gunshot wounds. Ceres sustained a gunshot wound to his lower abdomen, while Allen, who is no stranger to the law, was shot in his shoulder. Matthews received two gunshot wounds, one to the left hand and another in the left thigh. Additionally, Authur was shot in the left leg while Wayne was shot in his right thigh and hand. Detectives learned that the victims might have been attending an “All Black Party” at V’s Flavour Delight, located at 23 D’Urban Street, Lodge. At around 05:00hrs on Saturday, police closed off the party but some persons continued to consume alcohol in front of the location. The host of the event, Keon Aaron said that he was checking off his bar when he heard several gunshots. While finding out where it came from, he reportedly saw a black car speeding in the western direction from the location. He then saw several bloodied individuals being placed in vehicles and being rushed away to the city hospital. Ranks subsequently made checks at the GPHC where they learned that several persons were shot and one of them killed during a shooting at the location. The police subsequently located the car believed to have been used in the shooting. It was found parked on the eastern carriageway of Manatee Place, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown. “The vehicle was processed and photographed by the CID team, and eleven 9mm spent shells, along with one .223 spent shell, were found in the front and back seats of the car,” police said while adding that “two suspected bullet holes were seen in the lower right back passenger door, and what appears to be a graze from a bullet to the left side back just above the gas tank.” Police were able to contact the owner of the vehicle, 33-year-old Coleen Burrowes, a businesswoman. She told investigators that the car was stolen from her around 04:00hrs on Saturday by two men on a XR-Honda motorcycle at Victor and D’Urban Streets, Georgetown. The woman claimed that she was in the company of her cousin in the car and had stopped the vehicle there to urinate when the men rode up to her. Burrowes related that the pillion rider dismounted the motorcycle, and pointed a gun at her while demanding that she give them the car. Fearful for her life, she, along with the other occupants of the car exited the car, and the armed man entered and drove it away while his accomplice followed behind on the motorcycle. Man shot to neck, robbed of gold chain by masked gunman Sep 10, 2024 News Kaieteur News – A man was on Sunday shot to the neck and robbed of his gold chain by a lone gunman a short distance away from his Sophia, Greater Georgetown home. According to the police the incident occurred around 20:10 hrs at Red Road Sophia East Coast Demerara and the victim was identified as Kawsi Lord of Cummings Park East Coast Demerara. Lord had left his Cummings Park home to buy food when he was confronted by a masked armed man who he was unable to identify. The man shot him to the neck and robbed him of his gold chain. Lord was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital by his wife and a friend. He was examined and treated by a doctor on duty and his condition is currently regarded as stable. School children being educated by police rank during sensitization session According to a report issued by the Guyana Police Force (GPF), 576 tickets were issued for exceeding the speed limit, with Region Five (Mahaica- Berbice,) recording 248 of that amount. With regard to DUI, 26 cases were made out with equal number charged for court. Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) recorded most of DUI cases with 14 of that amount. It is reported that seven cases were made for failure to wear seat belt, while 108 for driver and pillion rider failure to wear safety helmets. In addition, 88 cases were recorded for unlit motor vehicle (rear and front), and 35 cases were made for unlicensed drivers.
