Chinese Travel Agent allegedly involved in a gold smuggling ring on $400,000 bail Jul 23, 2024 Court Stories, Features / Columnists, News Kaieteur News – The 30-year-old Chinese Travel agent who was allegedly involved in a gold smuggling ring was on Monday placed on $400,000 bail for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition. Alleged suspect of gold smuggling ring released on bail: Ying Xin Su The woman, Ying Xin Su, an employee of Muneshwer’s Travel Service made her second court appearance before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court. Attorney Bernard DaSilva who represented Su denied that his client was part of a gold smuggling ring and told the court that his client was not in possession of the said firearm and ammunition. Magistrate Bess released Su on $250,000 bail for firearm possession and $150,000 bail for possession of ammunition. Further, the magistrate instructed that Su reports to the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters on the first Monday of every month. She is scheduled to return to court on August 9 and 11 for trial. Meanwhile, during Su’s first court appearance on July 12, 2024 at the Diamond Magistrates’ Court she pleaded not guilty to the possession of arms and ammunition charges. She was remanded. It is alleged that on July 9, 2024, Su had a 9mm Glock pistol and 14 9mm rounds of ammunition in her possession. She is not the holder of a firearm licence. She was arrested along with two Chinese men – one of them identified as Yang Su, her driver – on the said date at a city hotel. They were arrested after police managed to dismantle a transnational criminal network in Guyana reportedly involved in gold smuggling and other illegal activities. During the bust, police confiscated some $39M in cash from them along with an unlicensed firearm with matching bullets. Ying Xin Su was later charged with the illegal possession of the firearm and the bullets while the two Chinese men remain under investigation. Additionally, another Chinese woman, 34-year-old Zhong Jin Ziang, suspected of being involved in the said gold smuggling ring was granted bail for over-staying her time in Guyana. According to police, she is also a customer representative at Muneshwers Travel Service and was arrested on July 15 during the course of an investigation into a major money laundering and gold smuggling operation in the country. Ziang appeared at the Grove/Diamond Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Judy Latchman and pleaded not guilty to the offence. She was placed on $60,000 bail and the case was transferred to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court where she is scheduled to appear on August 14, 2024. A wanted bulletin was also issued by police for another Chinese man identified as, Zhenjian Fang of 47 New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD). According to the bulletin, he is wanted for questioning in relation to money laundering and related serious offences in Guyana. Related Similar Articles

On bail: Negus Lamazon Negus Lamazon of lot 51 Durban Street Lodge, Georgetown is accused of robbing a Toucan Distributors Limited Manager at a city bank on July 3. According to the charge, Lamazon, while in the company of others and armed with a gun, robbed Faizal Shaw, the Toucan Distributors Manager of $18, 242, 070. He pleaded not guilty to the charge. Lamazon’s attorney Joel Ross begged the court for his client to be released on reasonable bail. Ross told the court that Lamazon was charged once in 2021 for a similar offence. The Prosecutor objected to bail due the seriousness and prevalence of the offence. Notwithstanding, $700,000 bail was granted and Lamazon was required to lodge his passport and report to the Brickdam Police Station on the last Friday of every month. The accused is scheduled to return to court on August 19 for disclosures. It was reported that on July 3, two bandits dressed in police uniforms and reportedly wearing ski masks, robbed Shaw of millions in cash as he was depositing it into a vault at a city bank. Investigators learnt that the victim left his workplace around 21:15 hrs. in a black Land Cruiser vehicle (PKK 3700) with five bags containing the cash. When he arrived at the bank, he met with a GEB security Guard on duty who opened the gate and allowed him access inside to deposit the money. The Manager claimed that while he was walking towards the vault he saw two motorcyclists approaching from behind his vehicle. He said the men were dressed as policemen so he did not pay much attention to them. He continued walking to the vault with the money bags in his hands. However, one of the suspects, reportedly walked up behind him and pointed a gun at his head before grabbing the bags from his hand. The suspect then joined the other motorcyclist, and escaped out of the bank’s compound in an unknown direction. Related Similar Articles

De car park up in front ah de driver house. Next day, same car, same trade plate, park up at de supermarket. Is like de plate tek up residence pon de car. Dem boys seh this can’t continue. De authorities need fuh step up dem game. Who issuing these trade plates like dem is sweets? De system getting abuse worse than a chicken in a fox den. The Guyana Jaguar Academy went to the final undefeated, securing two wins against the visiting teams and a draw with the Guyana Panther Academy, while the Guyana Panther Academy recorded two draws; one coming against Point Fortin Youth Football Academy, along with a walkover against Tinto Sports Academy. The Point Fortin Youth Football Academy who achieved one win against Tinto Sporting Academy, drew with the Guyana Panther Academy, and suffered a loss to the Guyana Jaguars. While Tinto Sports Academy ended their campaign with losses to both Point Fortin Youth Football Academy and the Guyana Jaguars, in addition to a forfeited match against the Guyana Panther Academy. The semi-final match was intense, the Guyana Jaguars secured a 2-0 victory against Point Fortin Youth Football Academy, earning their spot in the final. However, with a five-point standing, the Guyana Panther Youth team were set to face the Jaguar’s for the inaugural trophy. On Sunday, a thrilling Cup final ignited the NTC turf. The Guyana Panther Academy eventually clinched the GFF-Star Rental Youth Academy Cup title with a 4-3 win on penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw with the Guyana Jaguars in the final. The match began with a scoreless first 25 minutes. Neciaz Baksh then broke the deadlock in the 30th minute of the game, giving the Guyana Panther Academy a much-needed 1-0 lead. The Guyana Jaguars equalized inside the first minute of stoppage time, with Rondell Peton scoring in the 40+1 minute pushing the score to 1-1. Both teams’ defences held firm during the second half, leading to a penalty shootout where the Guyana Panther Academy emerged victorious, lifting the GFF Youth Academy title. Head coach, Trevon Lythcott was delighted to see his guys clinching the title. His tactical training has paid off nicely, holding Guyana Jaguar to 1-1 draw in the final. Previously, the GFF Elite League Champions qualified for the 2018 Caribbean Club Shield but were unable to participate. However, following their victory in the last GFF Elite League season, GDF FC secured their spot once again in the tournament, which began in 2018. On Friday at 5:30 pm, GDF will face Grenades, champions of Antigua and Barbuda’s Premier Division, where a victory in this match is crucial for their advancement. Should GDF FC win in the preliminary round, they will face SV Real Rincon from Bonaire on July 28. The GDF currently lead the GFF Elite League, holding a two-point advantage over rivals Slingerz FC and maintaining an undefeated record in 14 matches. Their only blemish is an entertaining scoreless draw against Slingerz FC, who are also unbeaten and have scored the most goals in the league so far (69), boasting a better goal difference than GDF (+62) in 14 games played. Fruta Conquerors, three-time champions of the GFF’s premier league, were the first team to participate in the Caribbean Club Shield, competing in the 2019 edition hosted in Curacao. Starting this year, the Caribbean Club Shield will be fully organized and managed by the CFU. Concacaf has shifted responsibility for the tournament, providing support for its execution while the CFU assumes complete organizational control moving forward. Under the terms of the agreement between the two football bodies, the tournament will be rebranded as the CFU Club Shield and will grant qualification to two clubs for the Concacaf Caribbean Cup. Established six years ago, the Caribbean Club Shield aims primarily to promote professional football across the Caribbean. Participation is open to semi-professional and amateur teams currently holding championship titles in their respective domestic leagues. The tournament format includes up to 16 clubs divided into four groups of four. The winners of each group advance to the semifinals, with the finalists earning coveted spots in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup and subsequently qualifying for the Concacaf Champions Cup. Last year, SV Robinhood of Suriname clinched both the Caribbean Club Shield and the Caribbean Cup, cementing their status as the most successful team in the Shield’s history with two titles. FM Anthony Drayton, Micaiah Enoe claim respective Open Blitz and Rapid titles Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Chess Federation (GCF), in collaboration with the Gambit Group, hosted a one-of-a-kind chess event marking the celebration of FIDE’s (the International Chess Federation) centenary on Saturday, July 20th. Talented players of the local chess world moved pieces to commemorate the 100th year of FIDE and World Chess Day in the two tournaments, Rapid and Blitz in an official attempt for FIDE to gain entry into the Guinness World Records of the most chess games played in 24 hours. Hosted at the School of the Nations, the event saw the return of many dormant players who gave the returning headliners a good fight. The Open Blitz tournament was a battlefield only for the best, with FM Anthony Drayton emerging victorious, snatching the $30,000 cash prize. Keron Sandiford won $20,000 for the second place prize, and veteran player Rai Sharma claimed the $10,000 for third place. Micaiah Enoe won first place in the Rapid category. The Rapid tournament for unrated players was all about the rising stars. Fourteen-year-old Micaiah Enoe from Marian Academy, not only took first place but also won the under-16 award, pocketing the prize purse. Newcomer to the chess scene, Prince Dunn secured second, while thirteen-year-old, Alek Ubaldo Singh, also from Marian Academy, bagged third place in conjunction with both under-12 and under-14 awards. Ten-year-old Javier Davenand copped the Best Under-10 award. The success of the tournament is due to the hard work of FIDE Arbiter John Lee of the GCF, with the vital assistance from National Arbiter Odit Rodrigues, Gambit Group founder Oluwadare Oyeyipo, and Ethan Lee. The tournament drew a crowd of over 50 participants of all ages and skill levels. FIDE stepped up plans for its centenary anniversary (1924-2024) by collaborating with member federations globally to promote the most chess games played worldwide in 24 hours and to secure an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records which was achieved hours before the deadline. Certificates from FIDE, signed by President Arkady Dvorkovich, were presented to the participants of the FIDE100 Rapid and Blitz tournaments.
