BELIZE CITY, Mon. Aug. 4, 2025

The body of a man that was found floating in the water near the Southern Foreshore in Belize City on Thursday afternoon, July 31, has been identified as that of 36-year-old Anthony Williams, a self-employed vendor of Kraal Road in Belize City.

Williams’s body was found in the water near an abandoned building in the vicinity of the Bliss Centre for Performing Arts. After a report was made of the discovery, the body was retrieved from the water by the Belize Coast Guard and police officers.

The body was then transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, and a post-mortem examination is set to be conducted.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Regional Commander for the Belize Police Department’s Eastern Division, explained that on the night before his death, Williams departed from his residence and went for a walk near the Baron Bliss Lighthouse.

(AMANDALA Ed. Note: I knew “Tony” for over a decade, not only as a long-time newspaper seller, but as an original member of the Kraal Road football team that later became City Boys and won the Super League tournament some years ago. He was a quiet and very respectful and hard-working brother. I had missed Anthony for a few weeks at the Finnegan Market, where we would usually cross paths, on Saturdays. I have been told that he was recently ailing, from a terminal illness, and he was deeply depressed. Our sincere condolences to his family. Rest in peace, Brother Anthony “Tony” Williams.)
