Bpn Kings’ Jeremiah Toney scores lay-up vs Czl Suns

The Capital City Kings enjoyed their 4th win in the Belize Premier Basketball League (BPBL), as they reigned, 87-77, over the Corozal Cerros Suns inside the University of Belize gymnasium in Belmopan last Saturday night, July 26.
Brandon Flowers led the Kings with 25 pts, 15 boards; John Kelly posted 17 pts, 6 rebounds; and Nisani Mendez put up 11 pts, 3 boards. Jayden Lopez and Elvert Ariola shot 8 pts each, and Shane Pratt, Jeremiah Toney and Jevaughn McKenzie netted 6 pts apiece, as the Kings led the whole game, 41-38 at the half, and 62-55 in the 3rd quarter.
The Suns’ Ray Cruz scored 17 pts, Greg “Chippy” Rudon posted 16 pts, and Isenie Velasquez put up 14 pts. Jamaal Clifton jammed 13 pts, Kevin Jones and Brandon Rogers, Sr. threw in 6 pts each, Oliver Solis added 4 pts, and Andrew “Bynum” Ortiz chipped in a free throw.
The Suns fared no better when they hosted the San Pedro Tiger Sharks on their home court inside the Andres Campos Civic Center in Corozal Town last Thursday night, July 24, as the undefeated Tiger Sharks enjoyed their 10th win, 91-74, over the hosts. MVP Francis Arana led with 22 pts, Jihad Wright posted 20 pts, and Earl “Bolo” Johnson stepped up with 18 pts. Tyrell Griffith scored 14 pts, Keon Rowland delivered 13 pts, and Brian “Brybo” White netted 3 pts. Raul Roches chipped in a free throw. The outcome was never in doubt, as the Sharks led the entire game
Kevin Jones led the Suns with 14 pts, Rudon scored 12 pts, and Velasquez posted 11 pts. Rogers drained in a long trey for 9 pts, Clifton jammed 8 pts, and Ortiz and Joshua McLaughlin shot 7 pts apiece. Rookies Andre Herrera and Julian Gomez each threw in a bucket.
The Punta Gorda Panthers enjoyed sweet revenge when they upset the EZ Investments Griga Ballers, 80-75, inside the PG Sporting Complex last Saturday night, led by Kyle Steward’s 22 pts. Marquise Cunningham struck twice from outside the arc for 17 pts, and Chance Leslie followed suit 4 times outside the circle for 15 pts. Dane Bradley also hit from long range followed suit thrice for 10 pts. and Kevin Hamilton posted 8 pts, Alexander Ariola scored 6 pts, and Jaden Sutherland tossed in a bucket.
Kirk Smith, Jr. led Griga with 18 pts, Edgar Mitchell struck 4 times outside the circle for 16 pts, and Raheem Thurton posted 11 pts. Deshawn Brakett put up 9 pts, Kevon Laurie shot 7 pts and Gabriel Taylor and Daniel Conorquie netted 5 pts apiece.
The competition takes a break for the All-Star Game, skills competition, 3-pointer shootout and slam dunk competitions inside the Belize Civic Center on Friday, August 1.
