Kaieteur Sports- Excitement is building as the 2025 edition of the much-anticipated Deputy Mayor’s Inter-Ward/Village Cup kicks off on Wednesday, April 23 at the iconic Eve Leary Ground. Thirty-two teams representing some of the most vibrant villages across the country are ready to light up the field in a straight knockout, seven-a-side football competition that promises thrilling action and fierce rivalries.

Spread across four electrifying nights and featuring 32 action-packed fixtures, the tournament will showcase raw talent, fast-paced play, and community pride, all in pursuit of the grand prize of $1.1 million.
At stake: With thirty-two games spread over four nights, there is a lot of excitement. To secure up to $1,100,000, some of the biggest names will start the race. The first-place finishers will receive a championship trophy and $500,000 in cash, while the second, third, and fourth place finishers will receive significant cash incentives of $300,000, $200,000, and $100,000, respectively.
Tournament coordinator Lennox Arthur assured fans that all systems are go: “Preparations are moving along nicely. All the teams are locked in and ready to go to battle,” Arthur said. “We’re also looking into increasing individual prizes, so fans can expect even more exciting updates in the coming days.”
The list of participating teams reads like a who’s who of local football powerhouses, with crowd favourites like Festival City, Herstelling, Gold is Money, Z-Tek Family, Sophia, Mocha, Back Circle ‘A’ and ‘B’, Stabroek Ballers, North Ruimveldt, Campbellville, and many others making the cut.

Also in the mix are exciting squads from Stewartville, Tucville, Albouystown, Uitvlugt, Den Amstel, Mahaica, Timehri Panthers Beavers, Espanyol, Eagles, Airy Hall, Belle West Stars, Laing Avenue, Talibans, and Uprising, all vying for village bragging rights and championship glory.
Matches will follow FIFA regulations, with the exception of the offside rule. Games will be played over 30 minutes (two 15-minute halves), with strict penalties for teams failing to appear on time or for misconduct on the field. A red card will automatically sideline a player for the next game, and any team not present one hour before kickoff risks disqualification via walkover.
The tournament runs from April 23 to May 14, with the grand finale set to ignite the Police Ground in what’s expected to be a sold-out night of high-octane action.
